There's a sudden rush of hoarding programmes at the moment.

I'm watching it to make me realise that my Mum isn't as bad as I thought she was.....

ariadneoliver · 08/05/2012 21:13

I like the fact that the presenter has an understanding of the disorder, but I hope it's going to be more than hoarder tourism.

Who is the presenter?

I hope they make it an acknowledged disorder soon as these people don't seem to be able to help themselves. I feel great sympathy for the families.
Also , they should make a programme on people who hoard animals, which causes a lot of suffering and those who do it also tend to be in denial.

NorbertDentressangle · 08/05/2012 21:17

The presenter is Jasmine something-or-other who presents one of the holiday homes abroad type programmes.

(sorry thats not particularly useful is it??)

Tommy · 08/05/2012 21:17

there is a lot more sympathy and understanding with the hoarders don't you think?

ariadneoliver · 08/05/2012 21:19

Stranger it's Jasmine Harman who does a Place in the Sun Home or Away, but she also presented a documentary about her mother's hoarding problem last year.

Ahh Norbert got you, that is actually more useful than her full name, thank you.

Very sad about her dad.

ReelAroundTheFountain · 08/05/2012 21:21

I don't understand why there seems to be a sudden glut of these hoarder programmes?
I think it is so sad that people exist like this, nobody wants to live like that. I wish there was more shown though of the follow-up. Just hiring a load of skips and chucking stuff out is only the start really, it must be very easy to just start collecting again.

scarletforya · 08/05/2012 21:21

It's very interesting. It's definitely a disorder of it's own. So sad. Awful for the families.

Tommy · 08/05/2012 21:22

feeling really sorry for the wife

Willabywallaby · 08/05/2012 21:24

I am the only one blubbing away? It's an amazing disorder.

ReelAroundTheFountain · 08/05/2012 21:24

This is the first one of these that I've seen where the hoarder has a partner. How on earth does she cope with it?

Yama · 08/05/2012 21:26

Watching Jasmine's Mum think about her Dad had me in tears. She was like a wee girl again.

StrangerintheHouse · 08/05/2012 21:28

Thanks ariadneoliver, she's passed me by.

Cheap tv and with the state of the economy stuff like this makes people feel atleast I'm not living like that.

Notcontent · 08/05/2012 21:28

This has actually made me feel quite emotional. It's very clear that in most cases it's a reaction to dealing with loss. I am the opposite - I am forever decluttering. I am fully aware that it is an attempt by me feel in control of my life, because so many things have happened that make me feel out of control.

BornSicky · 08/05/2012 21:29

i tuned in to see how comparable these hoarders were with one of my family members and i'm amazed at how much stuff these people have in comparison.

it's so terribly sad for them.

Willabywallaby · 08/05/2012 21:30

Fascinating

Yama · 08/05/2012 21:30

Yes, I recognise that Notcontent. I am the same.

ariadneoliver · 08/05/2012 21:35

It's a very sad condition that makes people prioritise their stuff over their families, but they have enough insight to say the right things but can't follow through.

OP posts:
Tommy · 08/05/2012 21:38

really sad

StrangerintheHouse · 08/05/2012 21:47

Yay, they have a garden! Well done Alan.

Tommy · 08/05/2012 21:52

at least Alan has his wife and family. Richard doesn't seem to have anyone

Willabywallaby · 08/05/2012 21:59

Happy ending ish
