I know Im years behind you lot but, Ive just watched it from last night. She was my favourite, what was she thinking? I felt sick, knowing what was coming.

I loved her too.

HumphreyCobbler · 26/04/2012 21:33

I know. It is grim. I actually still think about that moment, a few years after watching it.

Pooka · 26/04/2012 21:35

I really really loved adrianna. It was real stomach clenching stuff. So dark. Obv ,uch of sopranos is dark, but there's levity there too. Not with the adrianna/Christopher story in later episodes.

rarebreed · 26/04/2012 21:38

Watched this last night, oh god when she was crawling away I could have cried.

BrightnessFalls · 27/04/2012 01:39

I've been so good I haven't even looked at spoilers. I'm going to be gutted when it ends. I actually, up until last night fancied Tony in some warped way. I was praying she would do a runner.

I love how the writing didn't sugar coat the violence at all, but you could still see the other sides of those characters. That they could be caring, sentimental, and funny as well.

I didn't feel that much sympathy for Ad, she happily took the money and lifestyle, knowing what it was about.

kickassangel · 27/04/2012 01:56

Actually, that was another thing I liked, that they showed characters thinking about leaving, or even trying to leave, but they were drawn back by the money

BunnyLebowski · 27/04/2012 01:58

Oh lordy BrightnessFalls! As someone who's watched The Sopranos 6 times from start to finish I'm actually kind of envious of you watching it all for the first time.

Fantastic episode. Beautifully shot. Steve Van Zandt as Silvio goes from affable friendly sidekick to terrifyingly effective executioner.

Brutal. But fucking incredible.

BrightnessFalls · 27/04/2012 02:48

And his wife, Carmel. What does she really think when her friends and family dissapear never to surface again? I think it's the best thing I have ever watched and, I can't watch the same thing twice, I can see this is going to be the exception. Christ, the way he dumped his gf who'd had her face burnt off?!!! I laughed, I have to say. He reminds me of so many gits I've encountered in my time. Without the violence!!

This is one of my favourite episodes! I loved Ade so that may sound a bit strange but the episode was so engaging, I was tense as anything throughout and was in floods of tears at the end. When Tony phoned Ade i was completely taken in! I was just thinking how much is this poor girl going to have to endure?

Looking back it always seemed inevitable that Ade would end up in big trouble but there was always that hope that she'd manage to escape from it all and even right down to the last few scenes with her this felt as strong a possibility as ever.

We've got the boxed set and have watched it umpteen times. I was quite reluctant and not too bothered at first but really got into it. I think Furio helped in that regard!!

Just recently we've started watching the Wire. If you enjoyed The Sopranos anywhere near as much as we did you'll probably enjoy that too!

Trickywoosmum · 27/04/2012 17:07

Oh why did I click on this thread? We have 4 episodes on Sky+ Box to watch and haven't got to this episode yet.
Also have a soft spot for Adrianna (had tear in my eye when Christopher squashed her little dog when high on drugs before rehab). Sad

BrightnessFalls · 27/04/2012 21:03

Im sorry you clicked on, I thought the clue would be in the title Sad

What happened to Furio? I mean, Tony guessed. Where was the revenge there?

Trickywoosmum · 27/04/2012 21:19

He's lying low in Naples - God he was an attractive man Smile - that ponytail!

bringbacksideburns · 27/04/2012 21:21

Is it bad that we have all the boxed sets of this (used to buy Dh them) and i only ever watched the first series?

I think the violent aspect put me off. He raves about it.

BrightnessFalls · 27/04/2012 21:24

Oh you must grit your teeth and watch it!!! Its his marriage that fascinates me. Infact, we are nearly at the final season and all the mob stuff is complicating it!! Its like they just drafted them in from somewhere to finish the show off not that I know what happens. Where was the uncle in Season 5 by the way?

OP posts:
Cazzy82 · 27/04/2012 21:45

I think It's perfectly understandable. There's nothing bad at all feeling uneasy watching gratuitous violence. I abhor violence of any kind in real life but when it comes to TV and films I can watch and actually enjoy it oddly enough as long as it's fiction. If there's anything on the news for example I just can't watch and change channel immediately.

If you're uncomfortable with the violence then sadly you're unlikely to enjoy the series but there are many episodes without any violence. I think it's just superbly written, so much so that you can feel attached to the characters and feel real emotion towards them, good or bad. There are some wonderfully funny moments throughout. Personally, the first series was the weakest for me and thought it got much better. 3 and 4 were my favourites. The show just really grew on me and I'd say it's the best thing I've ever seen on TV without a doubt

BrightnessFalls · 27/04/2012 21:49

The beauty of dvds is that you can fast forward Smile. Last night as I had recorded thats just what I did but, then I found myself rewinding just to check that it really did happen Sad. I couldnt stop thinking about her colitus, for some reason.

At least she went on to play the same part in Desparate Housewives Smile

I agree, the first was the weakest.

Cazzy82 · 27/04/2012 21:54

The uncle was under house arrest in series 5 if memory serves

BrightnessFalls · 27/04/2012 22:04

He was in it at the beginning, going to loads of funerals. I love his therapist and she's not in it as much now either. Oh, we must come back in a couple of months to talk about the final episode!

OP posts:
Cazzy82 · 27/04/2012 22:13

Oooh, I'm itching to say what happened to him next but don't want to give any spoilers just in case.

Yes, we'll have to revisit this after the finale, in fact, I think I'm going to have to give the whole lot another watch now!

BrightnessFalls · 27/04/2012 22:17

I cant believe I missed it the first time around, when was it on? where was my head? I must have been on another planet!!!! For sure, I will watch them all again. Carmel and her nylon trousers, bless her. Im tempted to watch Nurse Jackie now. Ive never seen it.

I haven't seen this in ages.

Sil's my favourite character. He's the only honest one (in a strange sort of way) and the only one Tony can rely on. Tony doesn't deserve him.

I grew to really hate Tony but I despised all of them except for Sil in the end because everyone's so weak and weaselly.

It's brilliant though.

BrightnessFalls · 28/04/2012 12:19

Sil executed Adriana!! Sad He was very amusing up until that point.

I had a love/hate relationship with Tony but now I loathe him. Im amazed at the feelings the Sopranos has stirred in my. Normally Im quite detached from tv shows.

Fab soundtrack as well.

I suppose the only remote nice one is the chef.

OP posts:
limitedperiodonly · 28/04/2012 13:12

But the reason I like Sil is that he's the only one who Tony can rely on to make sensible decisions. Killing Adriana unfortunately did make sense. He doesn't fuck things up like the rest of them either.

I can't work out what stage it's at. Has Christopher dabbled in scriptwriting yet? That's very funny.
