I'm watching but scared now for his surgery! He is such a sweet, lovely wee boy.

warmandwooly · 25/04/2012 22:34

I have seen an article on the condition a good while back. The little girl had a large mole on her back and maybe elsehwhere. Her mother said that people were really nasty when she took her daughter to the local swimming pool. It was here in the uk

I watched that. What sweet little boy and a very brave mum.

I hate these programmes- they shroud themselves in a cloak of concern, but they are actually just an invitation to goggle at the "freak". Nasty. Whoever satirised these shows as "The Boy With An Arse For A Face" had it right.

I'm so glad it all went well, no child should have to suffer like he has. I do hope that he's got a long and happy future ahead of him.

I've quite a few larger than normal moles and lots of small ones. Nothing like the boys one but very noticible and I was often called "paki patches" sorry for the offensive term when I was a child.

I'm glad I've seen this as I now have more understanding of why doctors haven't removed them. They have a deep root and would cause facial scarring.

Fortunately I love them so unless they show signs of cancer they are staying :) better than "scar face"

CoffeeAhorlicksAnonymous · 25/04/2012 23:25

Sorry, meant to put I've a few on my face! and elsewhere

Birdsgottafly · 26/04/2012 10:19

but they are actually just an invitation to goggle at the "freak".

If he hadn't have got the initial attention, because he was 'different', then he would have been left to die, because his family would never had gotten the funds to have him treated.

There is a hidden blessing in the 'interest' in him looking different. As there have been in others, it raises money for the child, who, in most cases would have died.

GwendolineMaryLacey · 26/04/2012 10:22

I didn't see the programme although have seen an article. Why do they have to give them names though? There is no need for him to be referred to as 'turtle boy' is there?

thedogwalker · 26/04/2012 12:08

The programme didn't name him turtle boy, the local children of his village did, as the whole family was shunned because of his condition. But after the media attention, the boy and family became accepted in the village, so not only did the boy get the op he so desperately needed but his village finally accepted him.
