Sorry, must have started a thread at the same time!

I was 7 in 1970 so have clear memories. We moved to a very affluent area in the Midlands in 1970, my parents paid £7k for a 3 bed detached house!

Gigondas · 16/04/2012 21:17

I know - its good stuff

margoandjerry · 16/04/2012 21:23

LOL at Ted Heath's accent! or perhaps L'eaul.

LeBOF · 16/04/2012 21:28

I'm watching this too. He has just said that before the seventies most people who travelled abroad did so "in a uniform carrying a gun". Dd1 just said "Oh, I didn't realise air hostesses were armed then" Grin

She won't live that down for a while though.

EnjoyResponsibly · 16/04/2012 21:32

I'm such a product of my childhood, I still consider a forrin holiday to be the pinnacle of the year. I didn't go on a plane until I was 19 in 1987!

Cathy and Claire talking about holiday romance!!

Timothy whites - that takes me back . Going with my mum to buy beer making kits (then cleaning out the Airing cupboard when it overflowed)

meditrina · 16/04/2012 21:38

Just switched over - wish I spotted this before.

Gigondas · 16/04/2012 21:39

Jason king Grin

EnjoyResponsibly · 16/04/2012 21:41

WTAF is Jason King, never ever seen this dude before ROFL at duds being "from his personal collection"

margoandjerry · 16/04/2012 21:42

Grin Timothy Whites! I associate that with beer-making kits too. People must have done a lot of beer-making back then! We also had a yogurt maker which I know my mum got in Boots.

EnjoyResponsibly · 16/04/2012 21:44

My dad made beer Margo (great name Grin it was minting.

Bless the Bowie fan.

OP posts:
EnjoyResponsibly · 16/04/2012 21:45

Minting = minging

My mum loved Jason King....I think he was seen as the epitome of sophistication in 70s Lancashire!

I'd forgotten all about Timothy Whites!

FrillyMilly · 16/04/2012 21:48

I don't remember the 70s (born in 86) but its a really interesting programme. A lot of parallels with today really.

margoandjerry · 16/04/2012 21:48

lol at minting. Just realised how appropriate I am on this thread Grin

Gigondas · 16/04/2012 21:49

Margo- we had a yoghurt maker too. I think it may account for my lifelong dislike of yoghurt Grin

BackforGood · 16/04/2012 21:50

Am enjoying this but he's a bit selective in his memory - I can't see that Marc Bolan was the most popular act of the 70s - does he not remember the Osmonds or the Bay City Rollers ? Grin

Jcee · 16/04/2012 21:53

How tall was that bus?

BackforGood · 16/04/2012 21:54

Blimey - doesn't Arthur Scargill look young ! Shock

EnjoyResponsibly · 16/04/2012 21:58

Back he's covering 70-72, BCR and the Osmonds are a bit later Grin

It was good to hear a bit of Lemmy too.

I used to do homework by oil lamp during those strikes.

cambridgeferret · 16/04/2012 22:00

Anyone watching the bit about the Ugandan Asians?
Thought provoking stuff.

EnjoyResponsibly · 16/04/2012 22:03

BackforGood · 16/04/2012 22:03

We had a girl join our class who was a Ugandan Asian.

I've had to go and pour myself a sweet martini and lemonade to get in the mood.

I can't help thinking that Mike Yarwood did a better Ted Heath than Ted Heath did though! Grin
