Shock
Blandmum · 08/02/2006 21:26

very

The kids are vile and the camp seems very hard arsed

If I was a nicer person I'd feel sorry for the kids.

JoolsToo · 08/02/2006 21:27

how have parents allowed to get to this?

we've seen it all before of course but it still manages to shock me (more the parents actually)

SorenLorensen · 08/02/2006 21:28

I can't watch this. I give myself a headache shouting at the revolting kids.

carefulnow · 08/02/2006 21:29

If I was one of them I'd be f*ing angry.

Do you ever look at your own & think 'what if they end up like that !'

Blandmum · 08/02/2006 21:43

I want to be as calm as Norman

If my kids treated me like that, god help them and me, love them as I do, I would be so tempted to change the locks

carefulnow · 08/02/2006 21:46

What sort of sad inadequate parent would you have to be to send your teenage daughter off with this preposterous bunch of hippies and expect them to have some sort of ephipanhy on television?

Whizzz · 08/02/2006 21:49

Sounds like the parents were pretty desparate. Can't believe over 3000 parents applied !

Blandmum · 08/02/2006 22:02

Greatest line on Brat camp ever

Faintly hysterical English voice 'this is not part of my life. I am not here. I am not here'

Calm American Voice 'And how is that working for you?'

Blandmum · 08/02/2006 22:04

carefulnow. I have worked with kids who are almost as bad as these and believe or not some of them are good parents are very nice people and good parents. many of them have other, 'normal' kids

carefulnow · 08/02/2006 22:07

its not really the kids i'm shocked at.

more the packing them off

on telly

geekgrrl · 08/02/2006 22:14

I don't think they had much of a choice anymore TBH (the parents, that is)
If any of mine turned out like that I'd take desperate measures.

Blandmum · 08/02/2006 22:21

carefilnow.

parents in this situation don't get , in my experience, much support.

Schools can refer kids for councelling, but atm we have an 18 month waiting list for anger management. And then if the kids go, and don't want to take an active part, you are kind of stuffed.

These are the kids who will just run away if you ground them. Scream and spit and hit youif you try to discuss their behaviour. Basicaly if they stay in their home surroundings they will just run awau to the drugs etc.

It is hard to know what to do in this situation. I have had more than one set of parents in floods of tears, somply not knowing what to do, as their kids were so utterly out of control and refusing to face reality.

Blandmum · 08/02/2006 22:22

and tbh, I think the kids are rather taken with the telly thing. And are more than playing to it. Bottom line is that none of the parents could have forced them onto the plane

carefulnow · 08/02/2006 22:40

i am simply not convinced that their best interests are served by taking part in this programme. yes, they are definitely playing to the camera.

ScummyMummy · 08/02/2006 22:41

Find the spiritual americaness of it very grating and to that extent feel sorry for the children. I can't remember being anything like them (halo emoticon) but I know I would have found all that mouse shite VERY hard to bear. Felt a bit rebellious just watching it actually. Norman was particularly slappable, I felt. Amusing to see he was definitely losing it a bit at times under that seemingly unruffable exterior.

Strip searching ott, I felt.

And, sorry, but some of those parents... "I found her having sex at 13. There was nothing I could do..." Er- wtf?

Think Georgie is surprisingly charming and likable. Hope she gets something out of this.

ScummyMummy · 08/02/2006 22:41

is unruffable a word?

Aero · 08/02/2006 22:42

This kind of programme scares the living daylights out of me. Would hate to think any of mine could end up so out of control. We do our best as parents, but there are just so many dangers out there........

I was trying to imagine the relief the parents must have felt to have peace at home and have a break from the constant draining effects of parenting such wayward kids.

Blandmum · 08/02/2006 22:51

if you want to know what happenthe c4 website has info on what happens at the end.

i think the best camp was the first series. but that had its fair share of mystical bullshit.

to my mind the most helful thing they do is detox the kids and put them in a plcae where they can't run back to drugs etc

interesting georgie wasn't the person who stayed the longest

lanismum · 08/02/2006 22:52

those kids are all wimps, they acted so hard when they were at home, yet the 1st time they are told they cant have a fag or whatever, they are blubbering asking for mummy to come and get them, id like to see some really badly behaved kids on there!!

GeorgieVickyLou · 08/02/2006 22:52

RTK - LOL every time I come on here their is a thread from you "???? Now" and it is always something I want to watch but forgot was on - my RTK TV Guide' missed this though as didn't spot the thread in time

ScummyMummy · 08/02/2006 22:53

I agree that the 1st camp was best, mb.

Blandmum · 08/02/2006 22:55

mystic coblers but they were just so damn calm and indominable

i'd be carrying half a ton of rocks m'self
