Is it the companion documentary to this cheery one, 'Why Ships Sink'? That was truly scary - particularly the ship where the crew just basically went: fuck this for a larf and scarpered, leaving the passengers behind.

sailorsgal · 11/04/2012 21:50

My first thought would be Titanic.

I'm watching it.

I think this is the most stupid thing I could watch. I'm going over to Holland in 5 weeks (overnight ferry) and I'm scaring myself witless.

I've been on the ferry before and although I coped ok going over, coming back I was in tears and couldnt wait to get off, it was a bit choppier coming back and I was terrified.

I've always had a fear of boats/ships/sea water and I'm really not doing myself any favours watching this even though deep down I know everything will be ok (hopefully).

tribpot · 11/04/2012 21:58

MrsPresley, I've been on that ferry loads of times and it hasn't even sunk once Wink - I know what you mean, though. I hate, absolutely hate turbulence on aircraft but the rocking of the boat only bothers me when it gets really, really bad (have had seasickness one time in my life and it was on that ferry).
It's not rational but that doesn't make it go away.

I will say, though, that obv there are no opportunities in the North Sea for a stupid stunt like driving by someone's house to wave to them (allegedly) and these are busy waterways. That said, one of the reasons we haven't been on the boat recently (certainly not the only reason) is that it haunts me that if such a thing did happen I would simply have to abandon my DH to his fate - he's a wheelchair user. With the best will in the world, the crew can't find every wheelchair user on a massive boat to prioritise getting them off, and I simply wouldn't risk ds' life in those circs. It makes me feel bad but there it is.

so close to land - why did anyone actually die?
I'm apalled

FrillyMilly · 11/04/2012 23:30

I felt sick watching that. It has out me off going on a cruise. Why didn't they start getting them off sooner? It was horrible watching those lifeboats go down and wobbling. It certainly seemed to be every man for himself didn't it. The captain was a nob too. That coastguard was certainly giving him what for. How terrifying to be one of those people climbing down the rope with the boat on its side.
