I'm rather impressed that she is doing her cooking on a camping stove!

But what about those people who can't afford the bet and need those type of cookery shows?
more basic cookery progs that are educational more than anything are needed and then people can move away from convenience foods.
I like a bit of aspirational tv as much as the next person but I think that we have so much of it that we need to get back to reality.
Maybe it could have been a prog of someone setting up a restaurant in a bedsit in rainy ...........(add rain city/town of choice) and entertaining their guest on a combined budget of five quid.

Valpollicella · 20/03/2012 22:15

Warm. Oh I absolutely agree! Trust me I do!

A series without the USP (ie Nigella style pouting, urban-ness etc) will not get comissioned nowadays as it's a too 'boring' to just be educating without frills, flounces, bosoms or whatever.

I blame the producers/director of the first series of NAked Chef for being all revoluntionary in their direction shots narative etc

Cookery programmes have never been the same since.

MollieO · 20/03/2012 22:46

Delia living in a studio and cooking on a camping stove. That's a programme I'd love to see Grin

Val-I am not having a go Wink. It just seems that all cookery shows are primarily aimed at middle class viewers

UnimaginitiveDadThemedUsername · 23/03/2012 13:36

Mon 8.30pm BBC2 seems to be the regular 'cookery as girly lifestyle' slot, what with this show, the Lorraine Pascal programme and that ill-received carcrash that was Sophie Dahl's prog.

However, I did like it the other week when Lorraine Pascal made scotch eggs, so I'll give her the benefit of the doubt.

Jusfloatingby · 23/03/2012 20:32

I think a Delia like programme dealing with basic cooking techniques is badly needed now. 'Cookery' programmes nowadays seem to be more about admiring someone's artfully quirky kitchen while the beautiful cook throws together something simple from ingredients bought at the local 'farm shop' for a group of equally beautiful friends.

I can't stand the barefoot Contessa. I do like Nigel Slater though.

ppeatfruit · 24/03/2012 13:30

I wanted to see this but missed it are you saying she's cooking on a single gas ring for a restaurant? ShockHmm.

I'm not mad on Barefoot, Delia (good idea Val I hated that cheats prog. she did as well) or Nige but they do cook and look like they actually EAT what they cook. I quite like the Hairy Bikers Blush

MollieO · 24/03/2012 13:33

Her 'restaurant' seats two people and her stove is two gas rings (but I think is a camping stove).

Oh thanks Mollie, but a bit weird I wonder why she was chosen out of everyone else?

bronze · 24/03/2012 13:46

I loved it but I have to admit I didn't really listen to her. Too busy ogling all the lovely bits and pieces

TheCunningStunt · 24/03/2012 13:46

Delias back to basics is coming back on good food tv channel...sometime next week I think?

MollieO · 26/03/2012 20:57

Watching episode two. I realise that I find it quite hard to concentrate on the recipes. I have spent most of the programme either thinking 'that's pretty' or 'why is she doing that?'. Confused

ppeatfruit · 27/03/2012 13:39

Thecunning i saw St. Deel's first 'Basics' Last night on Good Food .It's a bit too basic for me but a lot of people would find it useful Grin.

I also look at those type of progs. (little kitchen) for home decorating ideas!

Chubfuddler · 27/03/2012 13:49

Hairy bikers are the best tv cooks I think.

CrystalQueen · 27/03/2012 16:56

according to the review I read in the Guardian she did a three month course at Cordon Bleu, which wasn't quite the spin I got from watching the program!

MollieO · 27/03/2012 19:10

I fancy a career change. I've got a camping stove, red lippy and I'm sure I could find the time to squeeze in a cookery course.

Having said that she seems to have done quite a lot, according to her website

ppeatfruit · 28/03/2012 12:06

Mollie have you got a small but perfectly formed apartment in an exotic ciity? Grin

ppeatfruit · 28/03/2012 12:14

Oh and a self exhibitionistic streak? Also a love of having your whole flat turned upside down by Telly people?

cocolepew · 28/03/2012 13:04

This is repeated on Saturday morning, I watched it last week. I also spent the whole programme ogling her flat and wondering where she put everything.
She is cute as a button though Grin

cocolepew · 28/03/2012 13:06

According to her website she is "an international food creative".

Absolutely Confused

whatkungfuthat · 30/03/2012 17:02

I had a hard time believing that couples come to her studio flat for intimate dinners and pay real money. The flat reminded me of one an ex-BF had when he was working in Paris, except his was full of cd's & guitars

Hissboo · 09/04/2012 20:42

Missed last week's but watching tonight. I guess the theme tonight must be weird food combinations. I wonder if she was pregnant when she filmed this?
