currently we dont have free view, it is available in our area til we go digital at end of may. i just tested our tv and it was fine for going digital, then bam, it broke.
now i see tv sets with freeeview integrated, however will it work without freeview being available. i spose i could ask in a shop but i was thinking if i bought second hand what shoudl i look for?

apparently you can upgrade all tvs to digital once we go digital,
anyone got a good tv they woudl recommend or know any good deals.

Samsung make good TVs.

You definitely want a TV with freeview integrated.

How much are you looking to spend?

LCD TVs are lighter and use less energy than plasma TVs (both are flat-looking things)

Slartybartfast · 07/03/2012 17:55

oh thanks, i have no idea, not too much. 1 to 200.
but will it work if the freeview is intergrated and we dont have freeview in the area?
and you can buy a box for £20 can't you?

Freeview IS digital, Tv's without it or if you don't have a set top box won't work.

Slartybartfast · 07/03/2012 17:57

but what will work at the moment is my query? before we go digital

south I have no idea what you just said

Slarty I am pretty certain that you do have freeview in your area. There is always an overlap time between when they turn on the digital (freeview) and switch off the analogue (old TV).

This website might help

Slartybartfast · 07/03/2012 18:02

oh yes Shock
completed by 30th may it seems to say?

Slartybartfast · 07/03/2012 18:06

no, i doubled checked, it starts on 30th May.

Trills i said of the tv has no Freeview it won't work after they go digital?

ruddynorah · 07/03/2012 18:06

You do have freeview. You're getting confused by the deadline date for switchover. You need to be ready for freeview before that date so to do that you get a freeview tv now.

JarethTheGoblinKing · 07/03/2012 18:09

There are areas of the country that don't have freeview at all, in the south coast I think.

OP is asking if a freeview tv will see the analogue signal before freeview is available in her area.

Slartybartfast · 07/03/2012 18:10

thats it, our area does not have free view, yet. jareth understands me,

so - does anyone know? Grin

Our Freeview integrated TVs pick up analogue but they're a couple of years old. I can't imagine that they would just not bother with analogue capability - the TV tunes itself into other tech (DVD players and suchlike) so I can't see that they wouldn't pick up the TV signal whilst it's still going out.

(I assume that's what you mean - you need a new TV now but won't have Digital in your area until 30/5 so need to still be able to pick up analogue until then)

Slartybartfast · 07/03/2012 18:13

yes thanks mrs dmitri.
and you are probably right.

From a quick google and look on Argos I think new ones do still have analogue capability.

This one. just as example says it has a digital tuner and says it has UHF/VHF tuner so it should going on my very ropey knowledge do both.

Slartybartfast · 07/03/2012 18:32

OH, IS that what uhv/vhf means?
thanks so much

Are you sure that the digital date is not when the terrestrial signal is turned off. Ours was turned off in november but we have had a freeveiw signal although it was weaker but we have had it for over a couple of years.
Why not buy a smart tv so at least if you don't get a full freeveiw signal you can connect to iplayer, channel 4 catchup etc.

lesstalkmoreaction · 07/03/2012 18:38

I would also ask your neighbours as many areas that say they have no freevview coverage actually do have quite a few, but for some reason channel 5 is limited.

Slartybartfast · 07/03/2012 18:44

no we have no channel 5 either, in the dark ages here.
a smart tv?
i will look into that thanks.

i think most a lot of our neighbours have got round this by having sky or something.
