And I don't miss them a bit...................... after watching them all for 30 odd years I just decided to stop after always moaning about the plots etc.......

Anybody else done this recently?

Have been considering this as spend far too much time watching tv but don't seem to have remembered to stop as yet.

I used to watch Corrie and Eastenders but I stopped watching them when DS1 was born. He's nearly 13 now, and I can honestly say I have no idea who anyone in the soaps is any more, or what is going on. I like it that way. Grin

One exception is Doctors. I watch it but I have no idea what's going on in it. Grin

Seven years and counting here. Both dh and I don't miss them and we used to be emmerdae and Corrie addicts.

BaseJumper · 06/03/2012 20:36

I gave them up when I stopped feeding my youngest - 15 years ago Shock - after realising I had spent 6 whole months of evenings watching back to back episodes of people shouting at each other!

Haven't missed them for a minute, but be prepared for people not to believe you! If you admit not to know who they are talking about they assume you've missed one or two episodes and start explaining the latest shenanigans to you. I used to nod and smile - eventually I changed my friends!

BigGirlInASmallWorld · 06/03/2012 21:10

if i ever get evenings to myself, I wouldn't be watchiung the brain cell killing shyte either. Soaps kill 30 minutes of my day.

usualsuspect · 06/03/2012 21:11

I gave them all up except for Emmerdale

boredandrestless · 06/03/2012 21:12

I've never watched soaps. Only exception being when I watched hollyoaks as a teen.

All that time wasted watching every episode every week and they are rubbish! I really don't understand why so many people watch them.

RecursiveMoon · 06/03/2012 21:12

I gave them all up too. But now I'm addicted to MN Sad.

usualsuspect · 06/03/2012 21:13

It's just an escape really , a bit like MN Grin

BigGirlInASmallWorld · 06/03/2012 22:20

bet OP still reads synopsis and know what's going on Grin

hiddenhome · 06/03/2012 22:27

I gave up Coronation Street last year and I'm so glad that I did. We're doing loads more in the evenings now and I feel a bit of an idiot for spending so much time watching it now. I only follow Holby City these days, so that's an hour a week which is fine Grin

joanofarchitrave · 06/03/2012 22:33

Aversion therapy here. Used to be into Brookside. Moved into a flat where a flatmate's girlfriend watched every episode of every soap. Moved out two years later and still feel a bit sick if i hear a soap theme starting. I hate watching people argue so goodness knows why I ever liked any of them!

hiddenhome · 06/03/2012 22:38

Eastenders is the most depressing creation on television. I sometimes have on the last 10mins before Holby starts and it's just endless arguing and chav drama. Horrible people with horrible argumentative voices and faces. At least Corrie could be funny.

iamme43 · 07/03/2012 07:43

I must admit I dont really watch anything else now so really the whole evening was filled with soaps.

If I watch something that has three parts in or two like Whitechapel I like to have them all recorded before I watch then its more like a film.....

I will have to look at some box sets..

Any ideas

I liked

LOST
PRISON BREAK
24
INVASION
HEROES

I am currently watching a box set of DINNER LADIES which is unlike any of the above.

I like to watch programmes where I actually care a bit about the characters. The soaps have no such people in them from the bits I have seen and read.

Petrean · 07/03/2012 07:48

As an adult I have never watched soaps... I think because I grew up with Emmerdale Farm and Coronation Street. However I did catch one episode of Eastenders when at my SIL's house and OMG it was aaawwfffuuullll!

DressDownFriday · 07/03/2012 08:07

Dd1 age 11 is addicted. If she's watching a soap and I'm in the room then I pay passing attention whilst mnetting.

Seems to be a load of crap on telly lately. I spend a lot of time on the internet so I've swapped one addiction for another.
