ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 14/02/2012 22:05

I'm sure in the last series one of the grooms had his face blurred as he worried his business would really suffer if people knew he was a traveller.

MissMogwi · 14/02/2012 22:05

I did indeed Sue. I also used Tippex as nail varnish, ideal for writing boys names on.

SuePurblybilt · 14/02/2012 22:06

The horses'll be lamed and useless by three if the ones in my experience are anything to go by. The times in my life I've been closest to physically hurting another human being have been to do with travellers and those ponies Sad.
But that's just ime, not representative of the way everyone treats their animals I hope.

Upahil -the men usually say it's because they won't get work if they're known as travellers.

UphillBothWays · 14/02/2012 22:06

Fair enough on the work front OkayGrrl, hadn't thought of that

NormanTebbit · 14/02/2012 22:06

Perhaps the groom and the father of the bride were havi g a few um legal difficulties?

"On average there are ten times more driving fatalities within the Traveller community. At 22%, this represents the most common cause of death among Traveller males"

From Wiki pretty shocking eh?

LemonMousse · 14/02/2012 22:07

UpHill I remember in the last series one of the grooms refused to have his face shown on telly as he feared it would affect his scrap metal business if people realised he was a traveller.

Sparklingbrook · 14/02/2012 22:11

I think we have seen all we need to see about BFGWs now. Enough. Grin

UphillBothWays · 14/02/2012 22:11

There's such a sad undercurrent to all of this - the prejudice against them, the control of women, domestic violence :(

I feel so uneasy when I think of the life ahead for these girls

GoingForGoalWeight · 14/02/2012 22:13

Yes, me too Uphill :(

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 14/02/2012 22:13

Perhaps because they get those high performance cars so young.
18th
Lot of young asian boys round here go the same way. they get given cars for their 18th birthdays.
I wouldnt trust my DS behind the wheel of a car at his age.

OkayGrrl · 14/02/2012 22:30

The thing Uphill is many of these women are the ones who keep the family together then, without them the men would be lost but it doesn't stop some men treating their women like rubbish.

My cousin had two children and would get the crap beaten out of her, especially if a man looked at her or she looked at a man who he didn't know he beat a friend of our families up for offering her a pizza slice, he cheated on her all the time then he brought back a std so she chucked all his stuff out of the caravan and burnt it. Maybe a bit extreme but she's well rid of him now and he's been turned out by most of their community.

Alot of traveller and gypsy men treat their partners with respect because they're the mother of their children but like all communities they're problems.

glastocat · 14/02/2012 22:40

I live in cork, rathkeale is about an hour away. Many travellers don't pay for car insurance, sure how would the cops catch up with them anyway, they can just move on any time. While I'm sure many travellers are lovely people, many are involved in criminality, hence the large amounts of cash. There was even a 16 year old girl from a traveller family shot dead last week in Dublin, they were after her boyfriend and hit her by mistake. I am also confused about all the claims of cleanliness, their caravans may be clean but the sites are inevitably left in a complete state.how does that work? I really try not to be prejudiced against anyone, but they do make it very difficult as you only really see or hear about the negative elements.

PeneloPeePitstop · 14/02/2012 23:34

The highlight of the programme for me was those girls in the pineapple/palm tree dresses.

"Mammy how do I get in the car?"
"With your legs you silly tart"

kreecherlivesupstairs · 15/02/2012 08:06

My highlight was the 12 YO Miami Vice boy with 100 or more girlfriends trying to get out of the hairdressers the wrong way.
DD had her confirmation later this year, we have been talking about whether she'll have a dress or something else. Looks like we'll be heading to either Thelma or Afflecks palace.

Moln · 15/02/2012 08:40

I'd suggest she does her confirmation in a palm tree dress, but I know it's important to be unique. So what about a parrot or a peacock, something nice and colourful?

kreecherlivesupstairs · 15/02/2012 08:54

I doubt Liverpool Cathedral will have seen anything like that Grin Possibly Thelma could knock us up something in either primrose and blue or red and white. Those are the colours of our local rugby league club and DDs fave footie team.

mercades1999 · 15/02/2012 11:07

I think that it is strange that at 9 years old they are all ready acting as if they are much older!!
I liked the cat dress but i liked her cakes better. and as the cake maker said i think it would be really funny people walking out with what they think is a bit of cake but is really not cake at all!!
they all have such long hair! and all so thick!! :) xxxx

Moln · 15/02/2012 11:27

just had a thought this morning - did they expain why Nan-girl's cousin was 12 and only doing her communion now? It's usually 8/9 isn't it?

kreecherlivesupstairs · 15/02/2012 11:29

Maybe she was away from her home parish? I've no idea, DD did hers when she was seven in Switzerland.
To keep it fair, all the children wore a porridge coloured monks thing.

Chubfuddler · 15/02/2012 11:34

I said to Dh that cat dress is the sort if thing I would have ended up wearing if I had worn one of the many wedding dressed I "designed" when I was about seven.

theonewiththenoisychild · 15/02/2012 21:23

Im watching it now Smile

BrightnessFalls · 16/02/2012 09:42

Im sick of it to be honest. Im not even bothering with this series.

I liked the one they did about the Orthodox Jews living in Manchester. I thought that might turn into a series.

KalSkirata · 16/02/2012 13:05

what was that one Brightness? Is it online?

Finallygotaroundtoit · 16/02/2012 21:59

Shucks missed it - does anyone know how to watch it online? < rubbish at puters>
