Oh, what have I missed?

TwllBach · 01/02/2012 21:14

I've never seen it before, so I can't say if it is any different to normal, but why, when your child is screaming, would you make them get a French manicure and a spray tan... When they are three????

And why is it ok for a five year old to sing 'they call me cutey patootie, I like to shake my booty'

My mind is boggling.

Have you seen the idiot mothers standing up while their little darlings are on stage?

They go thru the entire sickening routine with them, and do not get me started on the hairpieces.

The entire programme is a paedos dream. Yuk.

TwllBach · 02/02/2012 12:53

I can sort of understand if your child wants to do it, but there was a little girl there that clearly hated it, so it's purely for the mothers benefit.

I'm just going to add it to the ever growing list of things that baffle me Grin

Little Miss Sunshine is the best antidote to all that sort of crap.

Love that film.

mrsjay · 02/02/2012 20:51

its a great film secret i caught it late 1 night loved it ,

SecretNutellaFix · 02/02/2012 20:55

The message is quite pointed, but oh, so true.

gallifrey · 02/02/2012 21:51

we have just started watching it, myself and dd who is 8. I think she secretly wants to do pageants herself now! She's always saying they can't smile properly etc and how much make up they have on, then the next thing she is prancing up and down looking in the mirror and putting my lipstick on!!

mrsjay · 03/02/2012 09:27

switch it off gallifrey dont let her watch it she will be wanting a spray tan hairpiece and tooth whitening all things an 8 year old shoulnt be worried about !

Somersaults · 03/02/2012 09:38

I feel sorry for the kids who just don't want to do it. The last one I saw the daughter loved gymnastics and wanted to be an Olympic gymnast when she grew up but her mother made her quit gym because it was making her too muscular for her pageant dress. The kid couldn't name anything she really liked about pageants. Poor kid.

VonHerrBurton · 03/02/2012 10:51

Most of the 'Pageant Moms' just come across as a bit, erm, thick. Some of the others I find quite sinister actually. There was an incident on T&T a few weeks ago with sisters entering the same pageant. Mom clearly favoured one little girl over the other and made it obvious, in front of the girls.

When the less-favoured little girl was placed higher than the other, Mom was clearly disappointed and had a screwed up face claiming judge error.

What a fucking cow. Her little daughter just stood there with her crown and sash looking frightened and dejected, whilst Mom carried the other crying kid around shouting and pointing at people.

I haven't watched it since. Funny how it's only popular in winning is everything USA USA?

gallifrey · 03/02/2012 11:07

I keep winding her up saying we will move to America so she can do pageants!
It really is awful though isn't it, the mothers are all evil and the kids are so precocious and spoilt, and they laugh at them and think it's cute! Makes you wonder what they will be like when they're teenagers.

galifrey it is awful although i do watch it sometimes , although there is a lot of money to be made out of pagents in the US not witht he littlies but the older girls can get college scholarships and money from winning , I just find it Bizarre and some of the mothers unhinged Confused

missmiss · 04/02/2012 14:42

I know this is a terrible thing to say, but it strikes me that most of the mothers are not particularly gifted in the beauty and physique department - a case of living vicariously through their children and bolstering their own self-esteem by having their offspring recognised as 'pretty', I think.

Pixel · 04/02/2012 18:49

I've only seen a couple of programmes. In the last one there was a little boy with the most sullen expression I've ever seen but his mum kept going on about how pretty he was and how she reckoned she could put him in pageants as a girl and he would beat them all. Apparently he was so beautiful he couldn't lose. Oh yes, remember now, his name was Braxton which made me wonder if he'd been named after false labour pains!

Anyway, his sister Alaska was a fantastic little girl, when her mum was telling her to shake her bot 'not like a hooker' she just looked at her and said 'mom, why would you even say that?" in a withering way. Grin

Come the pageant, Braxton just stood on stage glaring (didn't see him smile in the entire programme) while Alaska did a brilliant routine. I was so glad when she beat the pampered favourite brother!

Pixel · 04/02/2012 18:53

Sorry it was 'not like a stripper' actually.
