Is it worth a look on the iPlayer?

Duh - We'll not Will. I'm blaming newborn tiredness.

Watching now - not looking great 15 minutes in. I love the 60s was hoping it would be good.

I thought it was shite.

Karen Gillan as Jean Shrimpton didn't seem to check in mentally to her role at any point during the show. Her portrayal suggests that Shrimpton had no personality whatsoever, which seems unlikely if she was able to be so charismatic at a young age.

The guy playing David Bailey has lovely eyes but halfway through I had an inappropriate thought about his haircut resembling Frankie Cocozza which spoilt it for me.

It just all seemed a bit stilted for me. It didn't capture the excitement of people breaking artistic boundaries.

I did however watch the whole thing. And I've thought lustfully a couple of times about the guy playing Bailey. So, er, go ahead.

It was ok... but the actress was no Shrimp. I googled images of Jean and she was stunning.

It was a fair story though.

icapturethecastle · 28/01/2012 00:05

I think it would have been a lot better with Karen Gillan - I know the Shrimp was suppose to be shy - but I found her just irritating with they strange stare. Also Jean Shrimpton had blue eyes isn't that what originally caught Baileys eyes (yes know only a movie!). Waiting for Bailey's autobiography to come out later this year - I think that will be a great read.

thenightsky · 28/01/2012 00:10

I ended up googling Jean, Marianne Faithfull and Anita Pallenberg... all icons of the 60s and stunning women.

BendyBob · 28/01/2012 16:43

Goodness me that chap playing Bailey is quite something.

I did enjoy this, even though addmittedly it was a little weak in some parts. Helen McCrory v goodSmile

RubyrooUK · 28/01/2012 19:49

Agree with everything Bendy says.

tribpot · 28/01/2012 19:57

I thought it was okay, although the geek in me would have liked to understand how Bailey turned his snappy snaps into mag-quality prints.

It just kind of dragged on a bit in New York. We get it: Vogue wanted summat a bit more mainstream, Bailey wanted to do his beatnik thingy, Shrimpo didn't really have an opinion. Vogue Lady gets really pissed off because Bailey won't do what she wants, Shrimpo continues to have no opinion. Bailey pretends to do what Vogue Lady wants but doesn't, repeat as above. Oh yeah, and then Shrimpo falls over for no apparent reason.

It was fine but they could have fast-forwarded some of this, or focused more on recreating some of the fantastic scenery of New York in 1962, and carried the story on past Manhattan.

BrightnessFalls · 28/01/2012 23:34

Alright. Im going to delete it!! I had high hopes.

BendyBob · 28/01/2012 23:50

No no! Just watch it for the Bailey bloke.

Lol@'Shrimpo'Grin

Yes we def needed more story..but then again there was the Bailey bloke, so who cares..

tribpot · 28/01/2012 23:58

I agree, watch it for the Bailey chap - whilst counting your lucky stars you will never have to be married to the real one as he comes across as a complete tosspot.

Davros · 30/01/2012 09:24

I enjoyed it, well made and looked great, DD (8) loved it. I think KG didn't speak much because she couldn't manage the accent! Mind you, Bailey's accent was atrocious.

BooMagoo · 30/01/2012 12:07

Worth watching if only for the gorgeous Sascha Bailey (Bailey) who is David Bailey's son IRL.

CDMforever · 30/01/2012 19:03

Karen Gillan is a nice looking lass but she just doesn't have the cheek bones of Jean Shrimpton!

Housewife2010 · 04/02/2012 16:45

Bailey was played by Aneurin Barnard not Sascha Bailey - who was employed in a technical role on the film.
I saw it last night. Watchable, but not that great. Definitely agree with Tribpot's review.
