There's some stuff on the BBC website here

MrsMiggins · 15/01/2006 21:36

made me feel depressed
the family where the parents had split and couldnt agree with access was bad enough

then they went on to say that mothers feelings affected Children more...great...more pressure on the mum

notasheep · 15/01/2006 21:37

Where was Paris? (alisons son)

Wallace · 15/01/2006 21:39

When Jamie was rifding his bike I was thinking what fun it would be if we had a place like that where ds could ride his bike....and shuddering that he didn't have a helmet on!

Helena is the surviving triplet - born at 24 weeks. Isn't that amazing? Her doctors wanted to switch off the machines keeping her alive...look at her now...

LIZS · 15/01/2006 21:39

They did a brief shot of Paris didn't they ? They tend to focus on 4 or 5 kids per episode, with occasional refernece to others.

Wallace · 15/01/2006 21:40

There wasn't any focus on Paris but he was in some of the clips - boy with lovely longish blond hair.

Can you tell I watch very intently

fireflyfairy2 · 15/01/2006 21:40

notasheep, IIRC they take a few children each week. Paris will most likely be on it next week or in the following weeks

notasheep · 15/01/2006 21:42

Im obsessed with series as dd was born 01/01/00!

misdee · 15/01/2006 21:42

i was so shocked at how active some of those kids are. we only got a garden in august 04, so dd1 altho the same age as the kids on the show didnt have as much oppertunity for bike riding etc, and even now finds bike riding hard going.

misdee · 15/01/2006 21:42

shocked i na good way btw. i couldnt belive some dont have stabilisers either lol.

foxinsocks · 15/01/2006 21:43

yes I was amazed at how good some of them were on their bikes.

notasheep · 15/01/2006 21:44

yes! my dd still has stabilisers and these lot were on there off road mountain bikes!

misdee · 15/01/2006 21:44

must get dd1 on her bike more

foxinsocks · 15/01/2006 21:45

misdee, I was muttering that to myself as I was watching!

misdee · 15/01/2006 21:46

maybe i should get the skates out of the loft which i decided they were too young for for xmas time. maybe i should stop being so over protective.

I love this programme tho agree with gingerbear that it's not in depth enough.
DS1 is summer 99 so a bit older than these children. Certainly not as confident as Jamie on his bike!
Interesting what they said about physical activity being good for happiness (I mean I knew that of course). Must get DS1 on his bike more!
So about Ethan being sad at school.
And Helena - what a poppet! Made me think of DD a bit and even DH said the same.
Wallace I spotted Paris too, feel I really know some of these children now! How sad am I?

cathyspam · 16/01/2006 08:50

i felt really sad that calvin didnt enjoy visiting his dad and Rubin really broke my heart - what a sad but lovely little boy. Also thought that Ethan's ADHD was pretty obvious misdee!

Earlybird · 16/01/2006 11:16

Fascinating to have a cross section of children to see difffering developmental milestones.

I'm fascinated by some of the honesty of the parents. I think it's quite brave of some of them to admit so publicly that they didn't really want another child, or that they feel an obstacle to bonding properly, or have suffered PND and so left their child in the cot for huge amounts of time, etc. But, I wonder how the children will feel in later life when they watch this documentation.........Will it provide a valuable insight into the parent's issues, or will it be information that the children find difficult to absorb and accept?

There was an interesting little article on the ST Review yesterday basically summarising some of the findings about happiness with the children. Interestingly though Sir RW was quite forthcoming about Rubin's situation and said something which was not in the programme. He said he thought it was nonsense that R's mum blamed her traumatic birth experience on there not being a bond with her son. He said Rubin's anxieties WERE down to his relationship with his mum but that his mum having 4 (or is it 5?) boys all by different fathers was very unsettling for him. I remember her relationship with R's father being examined one year she was very negative towards him even though he was very keen to build a relationship with the little boy.

I was surprised that RW was so judgemental about her. I do think she's a bit screwed up. I had the same birth experience as her (twice) - placenta praevia and so had to have planned sections but you just have to accept it and get on with it. Not so easy for some peopole though I guess, esp if there are other issues, which I think there are with her. Don't mean to sound too judgemental either, honest! but found it hard to sympathise with her TBH, I felt bad for Rubin.

It's on Teleport Replay if you've got that.

TwoIfBySea · 16/01/2006 22:46

Don't you think though that Reuben's mum was getting him to do activities that she would have liked to do? I remember his dad from last year and she had kept his son away from him for no real reason and then suddenly decided he could know his little boy. Very sad.

Helena is beautiful, no wonder she scored high in the happiness test. I love her little comments and this from a girl who was supposed to get the life support machine turned off if the doctors had their way! I did feel for her when she was in the play area though, some kids are harsh.

Did anyone else do the test with the dolls? I tried it with both dst to hear what they would say even though they are younger at 4. Don't care if that makes the test valid, I was just curious to hear what they would say!

meggmoo · 16/01/2006 22:59

I think Ruben is just the most handsome little fella ever, such sad, sad eyes though.
