Top of the Pops?

My daughter (aged 13) doesn't listen to much pop music and is teased a bit at school for being square. Is there the equivalent of Top of the Pops on any of the channels? I need to help her to be less square as she is utterly miserable at present. I was also thinking of taking her to some pop concerts, but I don't know who to take her to see, or where, we live in Hertfordshire, I've never liked big venues like Wembley. Please help.

I think they're expected to watch pop porn MTV, but we've deleted it from our set top box due to the pop vids these days being so unsuitable. Perhaps Radio1?

You could get a recent compilation cd - like Now thats what I call music... that has all the latest pop chart songs on it and see if she likes any. What singers /bands do they like at her school? The wanted? Katy Perry etc- T4 on channel 4 (weekends and early morning) and the freeview music channels (Viva and E4 music) show the latest videos on a regular loop - but I agree with hidden they are very questionable in their protrayal of women.

My two teen DD's don't like pop either but thankfully have not been teased. Some of their friends very half heartedly like The Wanted, Pink, Katy Perry and Rihanna.

she should join a site like www.last.fm and find something she likes, it will then give you recommendations of stuff that sounds similar. Don't restrict her to just current pop music - start at the Beatles and go from there. She'll find something she likes rather than just going with the crowd!

I wouldn't take her to any pop concerts until she has figured out what, if any, artists she enjoys. Going to something she has no interest in would be hell.

The only time my DSs listened to music at that sort of age was in my car when, rather than listen to radio 4 (my station of choice), they tuned into the local commercial station. None of my 3 DSs have been that in to music as young teens and it never seemed to be a problem. Maybe it's harder for girls.
