Just caught the second episode - 'Anouk' and thought it was brilliantly acted and really well written too.

It's based on a novel so the characters are really well developed. Each episode centres on a different person but the same storyline running through.

Love the first episode how much the Aussie's booze their way through a birthday barbecue!

Msinterpret, that's interesting that you say that about Manolis - not being particularly interested in his perspective at this stage. I think I felt the same - his story felt removed from the action in the beginning. But afterwards, I thought - this is a perspective we never see. The old, greek parents are more likely to be periphery characters, even caricatures in a way, aren't they?

Oh, Aisha does get an episode (after Manolis).

I wasnt so moved by Rosies last night, Im trying to like her but, I just cant. I think I fell asleep by the end of it. Why does she love that pig of a husband so much? why cant she leave him?

Its very unusual to be so hooked on a series without liking any of the characters. Appart from Anouk.

Yes, loving the book and the telly programme. Different. Just wish it was on a bit earlier though - way past my bedtime!

Yes, FairlyDinkum, you're right and having been proven wrong about Connie's story I am now looking forward to Manolis'.

fedup - Agree! I've been watching on iPlayer...

I didn't enjoy the Connie episode as much as the others, but the series as a whole has been excellent. They are a dislikeable bunch aren't they? I haven't really warmed to anyone yet, although it is interesting finding out about them all. Some of the sex scenes are definitely a bit cringey though.

Felt a bit sorry for Rosie with her chaotic life, but also felt that she needed a boot up the bum to start taking control of things and ditch the husband. Harry's wife also had me shouting "ditch him" at the telly.

I was imagining the other night what it would be like if they turned it into a soap opera, would make Eastenders look positively cheerful!

Really enjoying this series, finally up to date on iplayer (only started watching last week!)

I haven't read the book so very interested to see where it ends and learn about the other characters. I've started each episode having one instant opinion of each character but my midway through my perspective has changed! Very interesting and well acted, written and produced.

I enjoyed the Manolis episode but like the Connie one I thought it was slightly too vague.
All I could think was that the author of the book must have serious issues with his background because what a toxic family! The casual racism (wife calling Aisha 'the black one' and Manolis not even flinching), the misogyny, the strident mother... Not to mention the claustrophobic family atmosphere and the hypocritical religious rituals.

What shocked me the most was that Koula turned all nice and sweet towards Manolis after she found out he'd made Aisha cry. It's almost as if she was turned on by his 'assertiveness'.

Can't wait for next week. I assume all those texts Hector's been receiving are from Richie and the shit is about to hit the fan.... I am so reading the book once I finish watching this series.

I've been watching this and i think it's brilliant, enjoyed Rosies episode and also Connie, thought she portrayed that teenage chemical overwhelmed with lust thing really well IYSWIM!

I have read the book too and enjoyed it. Am looking forward to Aysha....although I do think of all the characters Aysha was a bit of a miscasting, thought she was indian in the book and very lithe, delicate and slinky? The actress who plays Aysha in the series is attractive of course but not how i imagined her. All the other characters cast perfectly...esp Connie and Harry!!
