i've seen it. it was pretty good i thought, nice family, he'll be fine.

OddBoots · 07/11/2011 21:36

Bless his heart.

There does seem to be more about Asperger's on the TV now, unless I am just picking up on it more.

nikos · 07/11/2011 21:36

Why did you say poor wee soul. Think he seems like a great kid

VodkaKnockers · 07/11/2011 21:52

Just at the start, him saying that most people his age despise him and that he's used to being ignored.

Just made me feel so sad

I saw this and really enjoyed it.

Wasn't it great that he moved to a school where there was a teacher who was supportive and understanding working on his social learning. And then the Cambridge tutor who finally convinced him that full marks and certificates weren't important.

He was a great kid and what a loving, supportive family too.

GooseyLoosey · 08/11/2011 12:10

I saw it and wondered if the school's approach in pairing up the two children with aspergers was a good one. How can they improve their social skills if they are paired with someone who also needs to learn them. This seemed to be the boy's analysis too when he said he wanted to be popular and hanging around with an unpopular child was "dragging him down".

I thought he was a lovely boy an he reminded me so much of my son that I was sobbing my heart out when he said his peers despised him. I was so happy to see his party at the end.

nikos · 09/11/2011 06:37

I hear what you are saying, but I think the key was when the teacher said they were learning to enjoy one another. Think she was trying to teach them both that friendship can be a worthwhile and useful thing. Ryan had been badly bullied at his last school so perhaps they were trying to build up his confidence.

nikos · 09/11/2011 07:34

Sorry meant to say cameron. Ryan was the lad with aspergers on educating Essex.

RodThompson · 15/11/2011 16:28

Many thanks for your kind comments from Camerons dad!

adamschic · 15/11/2011 16:34

Would like to watch this, which channel was it on?

AitchTwoOh · 15/11/2011 23:17

YAY! it was a nice show, cameron's dad, you all came across beautifully i thought. i went to uni with boys like your son (not as bright, of course, but similarly quirky in outlook and intense when on subject) and they've all done very well and found cracking women to love.

AitchTwoOh · 15/11/2011 23:17

it's probably on iplayer, adamschic.

RodThompson · 16/11/2011 09:23

Sorry no longer on iplayer!

adamschic · 16/11/2011 09:39

I did manage to watch it yesterday. It was an interesting programme and I thought Cameron was a nice lad and I was pleased he decided to ditch the degree and concentrate on enrichment. There's no doubt he has an exceptional brain. I hope he gets to the summer school at Cambridge and eventually studies there full-time.

The Cambridge professor made me laugh when Cameron's mum asked about the aspergers issue with the response that they all were.

Addressed to Rod, you came across as caring parents, supportive and not pushy and I'm sorry that you were upset by the comment by one poster on the other thread. Good luck for the future and don't worry he will be fine. It's worrying when your teen seems so different to most of their peers, I know!

AitchTwoOh · 16/11/2011 20:41

was there another thread? i didn't see it. sorry if you were upset, Rod.
