Thank you begony. I started watching it without really knowing what it was about. Then I saw him and I knew straight away. He had that look about him. I didnt feel able to stop watching then.

He was a lovely boy and his family must be so proud. I am grateful they allowed his last months to be filmed. It was a generous act and a very brave one.

You can see where he got his strength and character from.

I watched this - so so sad, what a lovely family they are. What fabulous (and handsome) friends he had. What a lovely girl Ali is.

I knew he died, but didn't realise it was so soon after they married.

He seemed to go downhill so quickly from Christmas didn't he?

Today I can't stop thinking about it. :(

Have just watched it on BBC I player after reading this thread. God, it had me in tears which isn't really like me. He was just lovely. Life is too cruel at times.

I read about Alex on the BBC website last night. It was all so familiar.

My brother had unexplained back pain that everyone thought was just back pain, until several months of it had reduced his mobility to about 5% and left him wetting himself at night. By the time the enormous tumour in his spine was discovered, it had already spread to his lungs and they couldn't operate there. Lots of spinal surgery, chemo, radio. He and his lovely wife didn't even make it to their first year anniversary.

He was 34 when he died.

I didnt watch the programme as had read about alex and thought it would be too heart breaking. I have had a form of cancer but was very lucky in that it was a type that has an almost 100% cure rate.
Was quite young when diagnosed and I dont think you process things in the same way. Now I look at my dcs and think how incredibly lucky I have been. I wish every cancer sufferer had the same luckSad
