Wow - this is so fascinating. One woman unable to have children as she has had radiotherapy for cervical cancer. She is one three sisters and one of a twin. Her twin sister is going to carry the baby for her by IVF and the other sister is donating the egg.
I never thought I liked any of this "messing with nature" but this programme has really opened my eyes.
What an amazing family.

I'm recording it cos Channel 5 is much more entertaining for this time of night

WitchyWhizzz · 31/10/2005 21:32

Yes - I started a thread when it started but no one seemed interested !
Thought I was a ThreadKiller

SPARKLER1 · 31/10/2005 21:32

Yes - pretty amazing !
I can't wait to see how it ends up

moondog · 31/10/2005 21:35

Read about it in The Guardian earlier this wek.
Did they make a conscious decision to all get involved as presumably it would have been easier to leave the egg where it was originally?

compo · 31/10/2005 21:37

they were on This Morning too. What an amazing thing to do for your sister. Not watching it but have they said if the one carrying the baby expressed milk for it or breast fed it colustrum at all?

SPARKLER1 · 31/10/2005 21:38

I never saw the previous programmes but it's going to be interested to see how things work out.

SPARKLER1 · 31/10/2005 21:46

Am recording this so popped over to the channel 5 programme now to see what's going on. Ooooh er!

compo · 31/10/2005 21:46

so no one can answer my question - lol

gingernut · 31/10/2005 21:47

I read about them in the RT. Twin sister is actually the egg donor, and the older sister is the surrogate. The twin sister didn't want to be the surrogate because she'd had complications in all of her previous pregnancies. I'm recording it, will watch later. What's on Ch5? I thought BBC2's new comedy looked worth watching too. Why do all the good programmes always clash?

SPARKLER1 · 31/10/2005 21:50

Ooops did I get them the wrong way round?

Channel 5 was a bit iffy - have come back to One Life - what have I missed?

Ah a little boy. I've got tears in my eyes. What now eh? Hmmm. Not sure how I would feel being a surrogate mum.

SPARKLER1 · 31/10/2005 21:56

to go through all that, a full term pregnancy and then give that child away - to your sister or no sister.

OP posts:
SPARKLER1 · 31/10/2005 21:57

wow and her sister has just said that she would go through it all and have another baby for her again. Amazing.

That was amazing!

fluffykitten · 31/10/2005 22:02

sorry was watching and not MNetting. It was a lovely story and saw Charlie on TV this morning and he is so cute and they have some more embryos and will do it again

Twiga · 31/10/2005 22:06

found this fasinating, watched most of it with a lump in my throat - what a lovely thing to do for their sister. Must have been tough on all of them, couldn't imagine being pg and then handing baby to someone else, thought that both sisters were very brave.

compo · 31/10/2005 22:07

can anyone who wacthed it tell me if the pregnant sisiter breatsfed then? Or expressed?

LadyTophamHatt · 31/10/2005 22:09

they lived in Cleveland and London so I doubt it was brestmilk that the baby had.

fluffykitten · 31/10/2005 22:10

compo saw him being fed bottle but no idea what was in it apart from it looked like milk rather than gin after a week they took him back to london so couldn't express then anyway. I think it would have been cruel to expect her to express with all her hormones all over the place anyway.
