Anyone watching?

I grew up not far from Grassington and am cringing at the unreconstructed racism. I tend to think that the whole country's moved a long way away from racism being socially acceptable but maybe it's just that I've moved to a different part of the country!
Wish they had introduced all the contestants at the start. Hard to have a conversation about who could win when we don't know who all the others are...

I'm shocked by the villager's reactions! When will we see people, not skin colour????? The family seem lovely, I can't imagine how they are taking it so well.

rodformyownback · 03/03/2011 21:25

I guess they were prepared for it. The bloke is active in the Tory party so must have met a fair few old bigots in his time!

True - and he knows he's on camera. The bereavement thing was quite funny Blush

rodformyownback · 03/03/2011 21:27

He needs to get a clipboard!
Pmsl at "several hundred mile away"!

It does'nt look good on the area but as you say its difficult to say what everyone else will be like.

faverolles · 03/03/2011 21:30

I live nearish to Grassington. I think this programme is complete tosh.
If someone new to my village came to my door, and asked to discuss local issues, no matter who they were, no matter what colour, I wouldn't want to talk to them, as it comes across as stirring.
Grassington has shops/cafes etc. Maybe a better way to start village life is to start chatting in those rather than cold calling your potential neighbours.
Have turned it off now - don't want to waste another half hour of my life :o

MrMayoNessie · 03/03/2011 21:30

There also seems to be a couple of frustrated housewifes in Grassington !

Euch - the black couple seem to have had a good go at convincing the locals they're not that black really... don't want their boys growing up around other black kids etc. Mum may have blown it with her parting "whatever" though!

The white woman seems a bit sinister to me. Can't put my finger on it...

MrMayoNessie · 03/03/2011 21:40

Loving the boys giving invites out to all and sundry!!! Maybe they could post an invite on Facebook!!

captainbarnacle · 03/03/2011 21:42

The blokes are ok. The women are awful.

rodformyownback · 03/03/2011 21:42

Do 12 year olds eat bruschetta?

OP posts:
MrMayoNessie · 03/03/2011 21:43

I am sure that they will eat anything if it's free!

rodformyownback · 03/03/2011 21:47

phew, my faith in humankind is restored!

Double bluff and editing

rodformyownback · 03/03/2011 22:01

Ooh, can't wait for next week. Will t'prozzie or t'lezzers win the village over? Grin

It was cringy, I had to turn it off. Felt uncomfortable with the racism.

Was also so slightly shocked though that when the London family were shown in the car driving up the mum was driving, dad was in the back with 3 kids one of who was on his knee. Obviously dad had to go in the back to make room for the camer man in the passenger seat who was filming. But totally illegal and unsafe as they were zooming along the country roads.

BooyFuckingHoo · 04/03/2011 11:30

eugh, i had to turn this off 20 minutes in. racism was appalling. shame on those involved.

glammanana · 04/03/2011 14:10

I would feel sorry for anyone who won this home, the
neighbours are definatly the most awful people, who do
they think they are, that nasty nasty man who said at
the dinner party that he would vote for a child killer
first should be put to shame what a horrible person
the family with those three young boys didnt deserve
the comments they received I am sure that they will
parent the boys well wherever they live but would definatly give that village a wide berth

womma · 04/03/2011 16:32

I grew up near Grassington as well so I'm watching it now...don't really get the premise behind the idea for this programme apart from making the townspeople appear closed to people from outside their community.

Grassington's a nice place but I wouldn't want to live there, growing up round people like that is why I moved to London as soon as I could!

Poor brummy woman though, they just didn't like her did they?
