ooh, it was good wasnt it, very moving as well. i was qutie tearful too.

fairyfart · 06/02/2011 22:56

A repeat, but vey good.
Am eagerly awaiting the next series.
Also love the bleakness of the landscape.

slartybartfast · 06/02/2011 23:11

i never managed to catch it before, always realised too late.
tonight i realised at 9.30 but was determined to watch as i had heard so many rave reviews about it.

Deux · 06/02/2011 23:15

Oh it's fab. Kenneth Brannagh just seems so tortured. I love the locations and the sets. Just a fab pair of glasses here, funky modern lampshade there.

Has anyone watched the Swedish one? I only saw one episode, I think it was on BBC 3 or 4. It was fab too.

When is the new series coming out?

theresapotatoundermysink · 06/02/2011 23:16

It was pretty good. The landscape is amazing. But I get all wimpy after I watch programmes like that.
I also found myself feeling tearful at the end, strangely, as I'd been thinking 'I don't give a shit about Wallanders bloody family' during the scenes with his father.

oh, i thought that was the swedish one Blush
but with english accents obviously

theresapotatoundermysink · 06/02/2011 23:20

I didn't know there was a Swedish one. Is it the same actors etc?

OP posts:
hogshead · 06/02/2011 23:20

It was good but I am a convert to the Swedish series which is absolutely brilliant and knocks the spots off the BBC version.

Deux · 06/02/2011 23:22

slarty, the first time I watched it it took me ages to work out what was going on and where on earth KB was and why did england look so funny. thought it must have been set in norfolk. so i'll share your Blush

theresapotatoundermysink · 06/02/2011 23:23

Lol @ deux.

Grin Blush

hogshead · 06/02/2011 23:24

According to Wikipedia there are two Swedish versions - tv films based on the books and the tv series which was on BBC 4 both of which are good but the series is really good.

I can also recommend the books too

theresapotatoundermysink · 06/02/2011 23:27

I don't know if it's something I should make a habit of, I would normally be asleep by now but am too scared. Wimp, moi?

I found the others in this series even scarier than this one. Terribly good and I love the theme music - but make sure all your door and windows are locked before you start watching and don't stroll down out of your house to look at the Baltic......

CaptainNancy · 06/02/2011 23:39

The swedish ones are great! (less like something out of a design museum Wink)

There are loads of them... about 24 I think- they were all shown on the BBC recently.

CamperFan · 07/02/2011 08:14

I didn't know it was on again, but I have just started reading the books after searching for "what to read if you enjoyed Millenium trilogy". So I will have a look on iPlayer!

diddl · 07/02/2011 09:43

The KB ones are absolute tosh imo.

The Swedish ones however with Krister Henrikkson-absolutely fantastic!

mousymouse · 07/02/2011 11:30

I prefer the swedish ones. the first series is based on the novels by henning mankell and is the one re-made with kenneth brannagh (sp?). the bbc ones are not bad though.

the first wallander is played by Rolf Lassgard wallander

hogshead · 07/02/2011 19:53

Also the Swedish series had the rather tasty Stefan in :)

I found the Swedish series quite a bit darker than the KB ones but totally gripping. You don't even notice the subtitles after the first 5 mins. The only disappointment was the price of the dvds to buy on line .... 45 quid grrh.

CaptainNancy · 07/02/2011 20:49

Did you know that the Swedish actress who played Linda is dead?

Absolutely tragic- she was in the tsunami, with her little daughter, they survived but she was badly psychologically traumatised and killed herself. So sad for her family and friends.

I agree with not noticing the subtitles... very easy to slip into- and many words are v similar to English.

mellicauli · 07/02/2011 20:57

We didn't get on with Ken Brannagh but Swedish version is great. I love the long silences and the bleak landscapes. It's like an arthouse film.

The Swedish is good because you are not tempted to Mumsnet while it is on.

theresapotatoundermysink · 07/02/2011 21:39

Okay you have all persuaded me. Swedish one will be watched.

OP posts:
theresapotatoundermysink · 07/02/2011 21:40

And that's so sad about the actress.

OP posts:
hogshead · 07/02/2011 22:31

I didnt know that about the actress - very very sad.

I have had a bit of a search on `the web' tonight and apparently Henning Mankell was so upset about her death he didnt finish the novels he had planned to include her character (although i dont know whether that is still the case)

Some of the last episodes of ?series 2 arent available with english subtitles yet and Krister Henrikkson was quoted as saying he wont be making anymore [boo emoticon]

Also I have just been outbidded on an auction site by one penny for the box set which I promised myself Envy

slartybartfast · 07/02/2011 22:35

perhaps it was another mumsnetter hogs Wink

not me i promise
