Just finished!:

Question- what was the 'dedication' at the end? Just dealing with a DS and missed it. Did the wife of the 5 DD family pass away?

Ta!

KurriKurri · 21/01/2011 22:35

Yes sadly Brenda died, - I'm glad she got everything sorted out and was happy with her will.

I didn't really take to Trevor, didn't appear that he knew Laura all that well, and didn't know her siblings at all, but seemed to have made a lot of judgements about them. I thought his sister was remarkably philosophical about the way she was treated in their father's will.

Longstocking2 · 21/01/2011 22:41

What a brilliant programme! Brilliant telly, great stories.

So sad that the Brenda featured has died, I loved her. She came across as a really lovely person, and her daughters looked like a massive tribute to both parents, how sad for them that she's gone but excellent that they'd gone through that whole process and thought of the best for everyone.

WetAugust · 21/01/2011 22:43

V intersting program.

The unspoken thing was that if Trevor had left money directly to his sister and her other 2 children their entitlement to benfits would have ceased - the man was unemployed and the non-benfitting daughter was a single mother. The sister said she's been in IS.

Couldn't understand why on earth Brenda wanted to leave the whole to one daughter. Madness! Still think that the medal should have gone to the eldest though - it's easier that way than to pick another.

Longstocking2 · 21/01/2011 22:44

which daughter got it though? Was it the one who said she would be really upset if any one daughter got it?

WetAugust · 21/01/2011 22:48

Not sure - the eldest was Lisa and he gave it to Tracy. Was she one of the policewomen

Blackletterday · 21/01/2011 23:48

We watched this too, Trevor came across as a complete arse, but maybe there were history/reasons for leaving the money to Laura that we weren't privvy to.

His middle class comments were shitty though, just because house ownership is not the be all and end all for a person doesn't make them scum.

The other family seemed lovely, sorry that the Mum died Sad.

It seemed a strange premise for a programme, but was oddly gripping.

Blackletterday · 21/01/2011 23:50

Never thought of that WetAugust, but by the same token, I doubt Trevor would have thought of that either tbh.

Blackletterday · 21/01/2011 23:55

Also, he went on about how much his and his sisters lives had diverged, he had bought a house, whilst she lived in a council house. Erm could this have anything to do with the fact 80% of his parents wealth was left to him Hmm.

I revert to my initial TWAT assessment, honestly he came across as the worst kind of Tory loving scum sucker. Greedy and judgy with a massive sense of entitlement.

WetAugust · 22/01/2011 00:00

I doubt Trevor would have thought of that either tbh.

Oh I think he did!

What i found unreasonable was that, assuming he outlived his wife, he was prepared to deny his step-children their inheritance so he could rattle around the enormous family home instead of being sensible and down-sizing.

I agree - he didn't come across very well.

WetAugust · 22/01/2011 00:00

sorry - I meant dealy not deny

WetAugust · 22/01/2011 00:01

Delay - arghh!

pastadoble · 22/01/2011 05:48

Weren't the 5 sisters attractive and didn't they have nice kitchens! Wonder if any of them are MNetters.

(Am very shallow).

sarahbraban · 22/01/2011 11:22

Hi everyone, just reading through all your lovely comments! I am the third grandchild of Brenda and it was so sad and so happy to see her at the same time! glad to see your lovely comments and thankyou xxx

KurriKurri · 22/01/2011 12:01

Sarah - your grandparents came across as a lovely couple, in fact you are all obviously a very close loving family, it must have been very poignant for you to see Brenda in the programme.

I am so sorry you have lost your lovely grandmother but I'm sure you all have many wonderful memories of her.Smile

sarahbraban · 22/01/2011 12:56

KurriKurri - yes! She was such a lovely woman and taught us all so much and she knows how much we appreciate it! Was very sad to see but amazing to hear her voice.

Im happy that other people have seen what a wonderful woman she was and thankyou x

pastadoble · 22/01/2011 15:59

Sarah - condolences to you and your family. Give your lovely grandad a hug from me Sad

erebus · 22/01/2011 17:44

Sarah- I thought your family were very courageous to allow the program to be made- but I'm glad they and you did! It was very thought provoking and demonstrated that not all families are dysfunctional- that many can behave like adults during difficult discussions..

Sorry to hear of your loss.

mummytracy · 22/01/2011 18:41

Firstly, I just wanted to thank, my neice Sarah, for showing me this site/forum. We were so lucky to have had such a wonderful, loving and thoughtful Mum. She was one in a million and we miss her now more than ever. our lovley Dad is truly amazing.

When the programme was filmed, in February 2010, she was fit and well. It was just two months after filming that she was diagnosed with cancer. When she passed , in August, she was surrounded by those she absolutely loved the most. She would have loved the programme.

We are so proud of her and feel so lucky to have had her as our Mum. Her legacy lives on through us and her twelve granchildren.

We have all enjoyed reading your comments.

If tears were a stairway and memories a lane we would walk up to heaven and bring you home again.

xx

WetAugust · 22/01/2011 21:12

Your father is an amzing man. I see was awarded the QGM trying to aprehend the terroists that resulted in the Balcombe St seige.

That's courage.

Cicatrice · 29/01/2011 20:07

Did anyone watch the episode last night with the family who wanted a Sharia compliant will (VERY nice people) and the family who were going to leave the farm to the boys only - cutting out the daughter?

DH was shouting at the telly and everything. How could the 3 brothers think that leaving their sister only 1/4 of the non farm property was fair? Just stunned.

ensure · 31/01/2011 18:13

Cicatrice- yes those boys made me so cross! They were horrible grasping hypocritical greedy pigs. I watched it alone so didn't have anyone to shout at the tv with unfortunately!

It was a real contrast to the nice family from the week before where the sisters all wanted to help the youngest.
