Yes! I started a thread too but no-one's replied so thought it was only me. Poor kids.

I'm watching, too. The families were brave to sign releases.

The teachers are so patient, and achieving some great results.

EightiesChick · 18/01/2011 23:12

Reminds me of the separate classroom run in The Wire in series 4 for kids with problems.

EightiesChick · 18/01/2011 23:13

Yes, the teachers' patience and endurance is outstanding.

Curiousmama · 18/01/2011 23:16

yes am watching. Lovely seeing Jordan at the moment Smile

MrsShrekTheThird · 18/01/2011 23:18

the development is fantastic. If my kid were involved in such a success, I'd definitely sign

the resourcing is brilliant though - wondering how the heck they're funded...

Sad nothing helps me

hester · 18/01/2011 23:37

I joined the programme halfway through, so am still struggling to work out the remit and funding of the school. Is it state-funded?

EightiesChick · 18/01/2011 23:42

Had a quick look at the website and see that their 'campaign aim' is that every school that wants a nurture room should be able to have one. No way under this government Sad I don't know what the funding is though; I didn't think to look.

Got to go to bed but am recording the last half hour to watch tomorrow.

Curiousmama · 18/01/2011 23:54

Aww the mum and her certificate Smile

I work in Glasgow, and it is making severe cuts and loads if redundancies, but it is rumoured that they have ringfenced heaps of money to continue the existing nurture rooms and set up loads if new ones in their nurseries, which is good news and shows that they are, uncharacteristically, thinking ahead and valuing early interventions.

I was in tears watching Jason in assembly at the end.

notyummy · 20/01/2011 12:02

Agent - I skyplussed it after the critics recommended it, and was also in tears at the school play at the end. I used to work with children with behavioural difficulties in secondaries schools and even at that older age what they needed what caring, consistency and appropriate praise. Some of the kids I worked with had the most horrendous back stories of abuse. Heartbreaking.

freerangeeggs · 20/01/2011 19:56

My mum is one of the teachers on the programme Grin.

The original programme some people have mentioned was an episode of Dispatches.

This one is an independent film - the guy who made the Dispatches programme got really involved and decided to make it into a film.

I'm glad you all enjoyed it! I do think the guy did a lovely job with the animations etc.

MrsShrekTheThird · 20/01/2011 21:47

FRE, please pass on how fab I thought it was, she deserves massive congratulations for being part of it. It gives me inspiration that we can do it too.

AgentProvocateur · 20/01/2011 22:07

Firstly, I've re-read my post, and I do know the difference between "if" and "of". Not sure what happened there...

FRE, don't know which one was your mum, but they were all brilliant. It's the only programme I've seen that had made me wish - even if only for a nanosecond - that I was a teacher. You must be very proud of her.

Cyb · 20/01/2011 22:43

I watched the programme as I run The Nurture Group at my school

I felt it was too 'arty' and didn't give enough background to the idea of Nurture and the theory behind it

Thought the teachers were good though

Cyb · 20/01/2011 22:44

MrsShrek how are you getting on setting yours up?

MrsShrekTheThird · 21/01/2011 19:52

slowly but surely ....or something Grin
Tis a long process, last term was about getting the basics of the room set up, this term's about starting to use it and it's mainly the learning mentor doing 1:1 or the odd bit of small group work. I've been using it for a reward for children with additional needs of various sorts, some on the autistic spectrum and some with behavioural issues, I use playing games or doing an activity of their choice as a reward for following instructions, at regular time in the day - these same children need to build up a good trusting relationship with someone and this seems to be a good way of going about it atm as it's all perceived as positive iyswim. They get attention in a positive way for doing something that deserves a reward for them achieving a small goal.
It's going to be a very long path....

I thought the main teacher was just incredible. She deserves an OBE.

The little boy, was it Jason, when he was acting out being drunk; my heart really broke for him because he had clearly seen an adult behaving like that. However, the transformation in him over the year was incredible. I welled up. The improvements Jordyn made too were amazing.

Every school should have a nurture room.
