What should happen now - Eastenders baby swap story

PotPourri · 06/01/2011 21:57

MNHQ have done us proud and taken a stand on our behalf. So what do we want Justine to tell the producer should happen now?

My own view: The only way I would accept is to reverse: make it a dream. It could be a from the point where Ronnie finds her dead baby. Maybe a sleeping sedated Ronnie is trying desperately to 'fix' the situation in her dream, but realising that there is no way to fix it. Then it could flash back to what really happened - the sensitively handled real life traumatic event - an unearthly roar, dialling 999, collapsing with grief, being sedated (hence the crazy dream)

And a public apology from the bbc to viewers and licence payers. And an apology to FSID for abuse of their name.

Reversing and admitting they messed up big style is the only outcome that will show integrity

Sorry MsFox but I was disgusted by the storyline in Footballer's wives but simply switch off. Didn't realise you found it acceptable. This has all gone too far. It is not real life, it is fictitious, there is no baby. Kat does not exist. Have people forgotten this??

deemented · 11/01/2011 18:32

Not at all. Thank you for reminding us, just in case though Smile

IAmReallyFabNow · 11/01/2011 19:59

Oh my goodness Shock.

Please let that be the end of it.

thunderchild · 11/01/2011 20:31

Hells bells! Iv just watched EE! God the trauma!
Anyway- some points
1 it is just a show
2 nobody-repeat nobody-i know thinks for one nano seconds that most bereaved mothers steal babies-or that EE implies they do
3 however, all other things being equal-statistically-it must have happened at sometime-- I mean who would ever have beleived. That womed steal unborn babies from other womens wombs-but they do.

Anyway-- I hope its all over soon! To much pain in the world.

deemented · 11/01/2011 20:34

Thanks for that reminder that it's not real. I must have forgotten between your post and the post reminding me of that three posts ago Smile

Hmm
thunderchild · 11/01/2011 20:35

Didn't intend my strikeouts by the way! This is a nasty sad world and EE have only reflected this, I just wish they hadn't!

thunderchild · 11/01/2011 20:40

Like I said, I hope its all over soon, I was actually shedding a little tear tonight!

MsFox · 12/01/2011 08:54

I didn't say it was acceptable. Just that it didn't try to dress itself up as anything other than a trashy over exaggerated drama. You're asking to be offended if you watch shit a programme like that.

amyjackdahlia · 12/01/2011 10:03

I have watched every episode of Eastenders since it began and have to say that I feel this is one of the most cruel storylines to date. Please make this heartbreaking plot end. Please, please let Kat get her baby back I can't bear to watch her suffering anymore. Also why on earth could Ronnie not have had some happiness for a change her baby should have lived.

Why is it that the writers feel that every storyline has to end in doom and gloom. I am sure that I speak for many watchers when I say that we all like to see happiness too.

jeanz · 12/01/2011 11:49

Hi did anyone watch Eastenders last night? I think that the piece that Jeans character read at the funeral was lovely......but still think ee wrong with the storyline in the long run. The baby swap bit is ridiculous and no matter whar Ronnie has been through i dont think she would have stolen someone elses baby!!Hmm So back to last night is Ronnie handing Tommy/James over for good and confessing everything or is ee twisting the knife even more and just letting Kat hold Tommy/James?? Confused
I made the decision to watch myself so i could comment accurately on the episodes but just because i have watched doesnt mean i agree with the plotline.Angry
As for someones comment on Becky in Coronation streets miscarriage then buying her nephew... I dont think coronation street have done a good job regarding the miscarriage Hmm all soaps tend to just have the oh whoever is pregnant ..oh now they have had a miscarriage oh how sad ..next storyline! why do these soaps programmes do their research properly. Another rant for soaps if you cover the issues be it cot death, miscarriage, depression,bi polar disorder, alcohlism whatver PLEASE give out the relevant helpline numbers after the show.
Also apologies for length of comment but would like to add all involeved acting wise in the eastenders storyline have done so brilliantly its just a storyline they should not have been asked to act out. Best wishes for the future to Sam Womack

diddl · 12/01/2011 12:06

So, MNers meeting at BBC to talk about this storyline.

Does anyone really think that they will change things & re-shoot, or that this is damage limitation & BBC want to appear to be concerned/listening.

Surely now that Kat has attended the funeral of what she thinks is her baby, it can´t get worse?

Mouseface · 12/01/2011 13:11

diddl - if this storyline carries on, that is worse, surely?

I know what you mean btw... not picking at your post but I personally would like to see this end before spring.

Will the BBC/EE pull it sooner because of MNHQ/MNers and other complaints?

I doubt it. But according to some reports, last night's episode was changed to what had been leaked on the wonderful Hmm Digital Spy and the scene of Kat carrying the coffin of baby 'Tommy' was cut too.

shellthegal · 12/01/2011 13:12

I think last night's episode was re-shot. All the photos and things I have read say that Ronnie attempted to take the baby over to the pub but that Jack stopped her on the way. Know that the storyline was meant to run until next Christmas but they then said they would end it in the Spring - personally think they ended it last night but will have to wait and see. Also inane chatter from those two girls was so out of place.

HereMeRoar · 12/01/2011 13:20

Ronnie at least made it to the pub with the baby in the original version, as Bianca is in the background in the stills and she's on maternity leave now. Somehow I doubt this is it.

diddl · 12/01/2011 13:20

"diddl - if this storyline carries on, that is worse, surely?"

Yes, I was thinking if there was going to be a story change, it would at least be that things might be resolved before the funeral.

And now that that has happened, ending it ASAP, while better than nothing, isn´t really doing much on the part of EE.

They are still keeping it as sensational as possible.

Ican´t help thinking that they are onlypaying lip service with today´s meeting.

"We could have done better & will bear it in mind for the future"

Mouseface · 12/01/2011 13:40

I really hope that the BBC/EE don't pull that "we could have done better &will bear it in mind........." line on Justine and Co.

Patronising much?

Plus the fatc that the more they change it, the more uproar there will be, as we've seen over on DS!

Why do people want to see the horrific scenes of the funeral, of Kat breaking down as she burries 'her' son, of the family falling apart?

Twisted.

Summerbird73 · 12/01/2011 14:13

as i said earlier i dont watch it but we were channel hopping last night and saw the bit with the two ditzy girls chatting inanely in the pub.

DH commented on how crap it was and i responded that it was prob a last minute filler. It was obvious but then again - so they should do that!

We switched over at that point but, it would be sensible for the BBC to fill the next couple of months with similar crap fillers - that might even restore their viewers - erhem - 'faith' in the show.

MummieHunnie · 13/01/2011 00:51

I think the filler was strange in that the storyline did not fit in, I think the acting and the dialogue were good, it would have been good acting had the storyline followed through a bit better, well done to the girl who plays Jodie, she did a good job with probably little time.

snuggly · 16/01/2011 19:55

Surely it would have been better to write the script based on a real life story. There are many bereaved mothers who could help raise awareness of cot death or the tradgic. To be honest i dont agree with the child swap storyline myself, but even without the swaping of the babies, the storyline was always going to spark complaints due to the incredible sensitive nature. I dont think the bbc was attempting to portray bereaved mothers as unstable child snatchers, but for some reason felt the need to enhance a situation that is unfortunately very common.

It is difficult whilst we want to raise awareness of cot death /infant death syndrome we also feel the need for some sort of relief in the plot. After all, tv is supposed to be a source of light entertainment as well as a depiction of social circumstances and situations.

bibiane · 16/01/2011 23:01

Thought this story had ended when Ronnie handed baby back to Kat in the pub. No such luck. It draggeth on. An incoherent Ronnie unable to admit to baby-swapping marred the episode. And the Darren and Jodie thing. Like it was dropped in from nowhere. Weird

Pebbles88 · 15/02/2011 20:58

I apolegise for raking up an old thread, but I am actually interested to see how people feel about this now the storyline has developed further? x
