Has anyone watched it? What did you think?

Ah... explains a lot of tweets earlier Hmm

Why did some have Yorkshire accents and some have Italian accents? I even spotted a northern Irish one in there from the man living in the wood. Dh and I were most confused by it. We initially thought it may be Interpol and thought that they just didn't want to do subtitles. But then why not just set it in the Uk? Italy obviously looked better. Jury is out for me so far.

I watched it and kind of liked but was going to say the same thing about the accents - they were all over the place! The love interest female seemed to have a vaguely "furrin" accent at times as if we somehow wouldn't recognise that she was Italian without it! I needed to concentrate a bit more though and not try to read the paper at the same time so am reserving judgement until next week.

Yeah, i thought the same.
I am italian and it ws really bad, especially that guy in prison that sounded a geezer.

Ps: the actress that does tania is from my same town in sardinia...

I enjoyed it but then was busy ogling watching Rufus Sewell in a suit, and the scenery.

What a combination!Blush

DH and I really enjoyed it. The accents thing didn't bother me - apparently they decided to leave everyone's usual accents in as you would normally get a range of various accents. Much better than giving everyone fake Italian accents, imo.

Set in Italy, because the books are.

DH looks a bit like RS, so I liked seeing him in the lovely suits too. Wink

JulesJules - I agree with you. I thought it was quite good myself. I was reading an interview yesterday with the lovely Rufus and he said he they wanted to get away from Italian stereotypes so everyone was allowed to keep their own accents. As he put it he didn't want the character to be another "corridor striding wanker" and he felt if he was putting on an accent and using lots of hand gestures it would make him look a bit of an arse.

I think in these circumstances, you either leave them with their own accents or you just hire Italian actors in the first place.

JeffVadar · 03/01/2011 13:28

JulesJules, you've written exactly what I was going to write!

We really enjoyed it, and although I think the RS was not really how I envisaged Zen (who IIRC is rather overweight and shambolic in the books) RS is so utterly gorgeous that I can live with that Smile.

The lovely Italian scenery cheered me up too...
