He's a pompous arse. His sister is very bright and witty - why were people having a go at her?

nannynobblystockingnobs · 31/12/2010 12:21

I love him. I don't care if he writes pompous letters. I'd love to go down the pub with him and Sue :o And yes, seeing him all togged up for the Supersizers period programmes... Hello!

edam · 31/12/2010 12:52

yy Springheeled, that's it exactly - horribly badly behaved. People who are genuinely clever and talented don't need to either shout about it or bully those with less power. Doubt his Dad would have behaved that way. (Btw, I'm not particularly exciting, just one of the legions of freelancers!)

CybilScissorhands · 31/12/2010 12:53

I like Giles when he wears breeches

But I stopped following him on Twitter , he was boring and smug

TheParasiteofChristmasPast · 31/12/2010 12:54

i disliked his 'dyke on a bike' quote. though it was almost worth it to hear someone musing about him on a punt

MrsThisIsTheCadillacOfNailguns · 31/12/2010 17:18

Wasn't 'dyke on a bike' AA Gill?

I confess to liking both.Blush

Punkatheart · 31/12/2010 22:14

I have met Giles Coren. He's a lech and a bit of a plonker..

ppeatfruit · 01/01/2011 09:45

And that article!!!!! GET OVER IT GILES. He does look good in britches though

BootyMum · 02/01/2011 15:16

I have always found GC to be pompous and arrogant - that letter to his editors, what a hoot! I mean couldn't he have said what he wanted to say in a single paragraph, he definitely needs editing imo the big drama queen. And to be giving a history and grammar lesson over the eradication of "a", ye gods...

I find his articles quite irritating as he attempts to appear modest and self-depracating but consistently drops in details of his own perceived high intelligence, first class education, erudite interests, etc. So he is boastful by stealth iyswim - I am sure there is a term for this but I don't know what it is [I am sure GC could enlighten me in 1000 words or less!]

TrillianAstra · 02/01/2011 15:20

He's entertaining.

I wouldn't want him to be my bestest friend, he's get on my tits, but I would love for him to be a friend-of-a-friend who I saw 2/3 times a year at parties.

aftereight · 02/01/2011 22:23

A pompous arse, yes.
But am strangely drawn to him in a most unhealthy fashion.. I would be drunk; he would be dirty..

DingDongBinaryOnHigh · 02/01/2011 22:31

He's smug and tedious. And often lazy in his yawnsome generalisations. Skip his food column every week.

I adored his father and have a girlcrush on his sister.

ClaireFromWork · 02/01/2011 22:37

My dad knows him. He says he's very smug and extremely proud of the size of his manhood. Neither are particularly good traits in a man. And I think his table manners are awful.

sue52 · 03/01/2011 00:13

He was incredibly rude to my daughter. He also finds it necessary to drone on about how very clever he was as child just because he went to Westminster. Ghastly little snob.
