When I was little, I remember watching "jesus of Nazareth" every Easter- I like the idea of something similar I can watch with the dc's.

i LOVE it, i made DH watch it last night...
Whatever your beliefs, it's a great story - and this version does seem to take all the facts into account too...
Am enjoying the characters, it sort of brings it to life...

LadyBlaBlah · 22/12/2010 09:51

I prefer Jesus Christ Superstar.

Katisha · 22/12/2010 09:51

It's OK...but am finding it a bit, I don't know, lightweight somehow. As if it was made for schools or something.

MiasMARY · 22/12/2010 09:53

I think it's quite lovely :)

Dd and I will sit and watch it all on Christmas eve.

Greenshadow · 22/12/2010 14:12

Enjoying it, but accent on virgin birth bit dificult to explain to 11 year old DS (who probably sort of understands it but it has previously been one of those things you just accept as a child, but this actually brings it to life and makes him think)

ebonyfish · 22/12/2010 14:17

We're loving it.

It's made me think about some of the more complex emotions involved for the characters, though obviously there's a lot of licence taken in the interpretation.

Spotted a couple of Yorkshire accents Xmas Grin

Just caught up on the second ep on iplayer. Got a bit weepy.

Flossie69 · 22/12/2010 19:43

I have been avidly watching, and have been a bit weepy - mainly because I have had a few glasses of wine, and also because I am still definitely hormonal after birth of DD, now 7 months. I am especially identifying with Mary facing up to her situation, and being so alone, but brave.

Looking forward to the climax tomorrow. Really, have felt it has brought me back in touch with the real meaning of Christmas, not just the present buying and decking the halls etc.

PrincessBoo · 22/12/2010 20:09

Am with you there Flossie. Smile

Joolyjoolyjoo · 22/12/2010 20:11

I've been watching it with the girls, although tonight was a bit tricky trying to explain why Joseph was cross with Mary (they are 5 and 7, and have basic facts of life, so the Virgin Birth is not an easy concept for them!) All in all, though, quite like it!

varicoseveined · 22/12/2010 20:46

Loving it so far!

nightcat · 22/12/2010 21:23

love it too, well done BBC :)

HermyaTheRedNosedReindeer · 22/12/2010 21:59

I love it as well. The acting has been so well done and I'm being really drawn into the story.

Despite the fact that I know how it ends I'm still all tense over if Mary and Joseph will work it all out.

Deliaskis · 23/12/2010 12:04

I'm enjoying this too and looking forward to the finale tonight. Agree it's really interesting to actually think about how it must have been to try and explain the unexplainable. I'm somewhat but not very very religious, but went to a church school so did lots of religious type activities/story-telling etc. but of course as a child you don't really think about how people would have reacted to Mary being pregnant but unmarried. In fact in terms of the way the bible tells the story, you don't really think about the feelings of the people involved at all. Really interesting to watch this as it's quite thought-provoking.

LOL at Hermya "Despite the fact that I know how it ends I'm still all tense over if Mary and Joseph will work it all out", it's weird isn't it, it ought to be the least gripping drama of all time given we all know how it's going to end, but it is really quite enthralling.

Like that Andrew Buchan (aka Garrow, another upstanding chap) is Joseph, but is he being a bit typecast these days - will he always play the nice, morally upstanding chap or will he ever be sneaky and unethical?

D

We3kingsoforientRaahh · 23/12/2010 12:29

lol, at knowing the ending, but still finding it gripping.

Like watching 'Titanic'.Smile

I am enjoying the bits with the Magi, and all the star gazing.

And Herod- he has got very creepy eyes!!

waitwhat · 23/12/2010 19:24

I ve really enjoyed the series but every time they say Messiah all i think of is the Monty python bit: He's not the Messiah. He's a very naughty boy!Xmas Grin

franke · 23/12/2010 19:25

dd just asked me if that was a real birth. No, but quite realistic Smile

I think this has been beautifully done. I love the 3 kings. And I like Joseph even if he's a bit younger than I imagined he should be.

headfairy · 23/12/2010 19:25

Thanks for the gold and frankinsense, not so much of the myrrh next time Xmas Grin

I love the whingeing three wise men "I've got sand everywhere!"
