The problem with that family is they are now in a trap where DAD couldnt ever earn as much as they get on benefits! I still think that it shouldnt be allowed that people who are on benefits go on and have more children. A family member of mine is a classic example. She has 3 kids already and the youngest one is due to start school in jan! She has just got pregnant because and i quote from her! OTHERWISE I WILL HAVE TO GO WORK!!! Is it right that if you want to claim benefits you can have as many kids as you want? I know some people dont plan it BUT surely if you are in a situation where you cant work as you are bringing up your child and claiming benefits is it right that you keep having children?
DH and I work and dont qualify for the surestart grant as our earnings are £25k per year but the family member who is pregnant will get it and she is on alot more due to benefits! Is this fair?

ADD again. I am not judging but i do feel the system is to blame and its the people who pay taxes that lose out! I have been a single mum on benefits but have always thought its better to work if i could. I want my children to be proud of me!

I agree. I want my dd to be proud of me and I want to be proud of myself. Hopefully in 3/4 years time I will be well on my way to a successful career!

There are downsides socci. I am certainly not rich, although I manage ok (and I am not complaining!).

I think perhaps some people have very few opportunities to get good jobs/education and therefore find themselves stuck in a rut.

I agree this is unfair, but I also think or hope that people on benefits who just keep having lots of children to receive more and more is a bit of a Daily Mailish stereotype (although I know they exist). Of course there is a downside. I much rather have my life and go out and earn my own money than live on benefits. Most people have some pride and want to be able to take care of themselves and they don't want to live on horrible council estates. They might have money for a play station or two, but I don't think this is a life in luxury.

I agree fairymum.

The downside is your kids tend to follow suit. I am not saying benefits are bad..I just dont understand people who are able to claim huge amounts of benefit.

I recieve dla and incapacity due to mental health problems. To verufy this I had to get letters from my gp, psychatrist and cpn had to fill in part of the forms. How do other people manage to get away with it so easily?????
My husband works 13hr days and brings home a wage because of this we still pay out for our mortgage etc and we live on a very tight budget with a 2yr old and second due in dec. Fortunately I am entitled to maternity grant but only because I recieve DLA. As I say benefits are great but why are people not seemingly measured on a par. Some people seem to be able to claims in excess of £2000 a month and others can get pennies..where is the sense in that

not all council estates are bad...and you would find it difficult actually to find anyone here in the day...they all work. council house doesnt automatically equal benefits.
