I like J.O but WTF are the paper snowflakes all over the kitchen about? WTF was that gravy? Why was Jools there pouting over said gravy?

OP posts:
OhCobblers · 20/12/2010 21:28

i like the idea of making the gravy in advance - am thinking of making it tomorrow!

agree though, far too many bloody snowflakes in that kitchen - felt like putting a match to them Grin

jennymac · 20/12/2010 21:38

And how annoying is the children's commentary??

bupcakesandcunting · 20/12/2010 21:41

Really annoying.

"mummy says daddy's special wecial sauce is sooooooo yummy and that she gulps every last dwop!" bleugh!

IAmRubyLennox · 20/12/2010 22:57

watching it at the moment on sky plus.

Isn't it a rehash of last year's, or the year before? I'm sure that baby should have grown by now.

(perhaps it's only me that thought it was a new JO Christmas offering)

MaureenMLove · 20/12/2010 23:00

He was bordering on being as bloody annoying as Nigella for me. Far too bloody condesending.

'Just tear the cheese into little lumps and mash onto the bread' WTF!

BooToYouToo · 21/12/2010 06:34

Loved the food, even the faffy gravy.

Yes, it was a re-hash of last year. The baby held by Jools was a girl and she had a baby boy this year, didn't she?

The scenes shot outside were far easier to follow than those where he's hidden behind all the bloody decorations.

MrsKitty · 21/12/2010 07:10

Yes, I was expecting something new, but it was just a re-hash of previous years.

Gravy looked yum, but too much of a pain in the arse for me Grin

bupcakesandcunting · 21/12/2010 09:06

"(perhaps it's only me that thought it was a new JO Christmas offering)"

No, I did too!

Hulababy · 21/12/2010 09:10

What was wrong with the gravy?

It was a repaeat from last year eaturing his family. It was his family Christmas show, hence featuring his family. And the sowflakes would be family type decprations - type his girls would have made.

bupcakesandcunting · 21/12/2010 09:12

The gravy was very faffy. Could not muster the energy to do that!

I understand the complicated subtext of the snowflakes being kiddy decorations and all. Just did not understand why there were so many of the feckers and why Jamie kept hitting his noggin off them. AND they were a fire hazard!

TheBolter · 21/12/2010 09:17

Agree annoying. I agree with principles of Brand Oliver but sometimes it's toe curlingly twattish.

Those voice overs that his dds were supposed to be doing surely weren't real? Their dds aren't much older than mine (who are 5 & nearly 7). They had the voices of twelve year olds! I hope for their sakes they weren't their real voices anyway - I wanted to throw my slippers at the screen every time they came on!

BigBadMummy · 21/12/2010 09:18

Since when have ice skates hanging on the dresser been decoration?!!

nbee84 · 21/12/2010 09:22

You have to make the gravy. It is a bit of a faff, but because you make it in advance it's one less thing to do on Xmas day. It is one of the best gravies I have ever tasted Xmas Grin

bupcakesandcunting · 21/12/2010 09:26

I'm sure it's excellent gravy; I was drooling watching it being made. It just made me cry a little bit at the sheer effort. I don't know about you but Xmas Eve for me is spent frantically scouring the shops for the present I forgot to buy the SIL's niece's cousins dog, not making the world's most complicated gravy Grin

Bless him though. All of his food looked gorgeous last night. Especially those roast potatoes.

Hulababy · 21/12/2010 09:29

The eldest girl must be 8 or 9 now, sure she is older than my 8y DD. Didn't think their voices sounded too old at all. No ifferent to DD and her friends anyway.

Gravy is a faff to make if you make it properly. But can be very much worth it taste wise. That gravy you could make a week or mre in avdance and have in the freezer.

The roasts looked fab.

SerendipityAlways · 21/12/2010 10:55

Missed the show - anyone have that gravy recipe? I find gravy one of the propsective stress points of the day!!!

nbee84 · 21/12/2010 12:00

Here you go. I will be making mine on Thursday Xmas Smile

IAmRubyLennox · 21/12/2010 12:23

I believe his older girls are 8.6 (so year 4) and 7.6 (year 3).

They did sound a lot older than my 7 y.o DD though.

OhCobblers · 21/12/2010 13:44

i've just made the gravy and believe me i don't do "faffy" Grin
i really thought it was easy and am about to mash it through the sieve!!

Katisha · 21/12/2010 13:48

Oh yes a repeat of the hilarious scene where he puts pepper on someone's mince pies.

Those mince pies still do not look good to me - pastry wrapped in more pastry...

nbee84 · 21/12/2010 14:03

It's the mashing through the sieve bit that is faffy Xmas Grin

Figgyroll · 22/12/2010 19:16

Why does he call his food "baby"?

Put the baby in the oven.

Put the baby on the tray.

Look at that baby.

I loved his gran though. What a lady.

porcamiseria · 26/12/2010 15:57
