It probably just seemed like ten!! You would have to have 2 paediatrians, one nurse, and, two midwives? probably the obstetrician and maybe one or two students? is that ten, near enough I'd say.

what got me is the night of the crash and audrey stayed in the pub - why didn't she take her family home with her and not make them all sleep in the pub? other people could have had the duvets and pillows, i thought it was a bit selfish Hmm

At birth of DS there were 2 neonatal registrars, one neonatal consultant, 2 neonatal nurses, 1 obs consultant, 2 midwives, couple of unidentified students, one husband. And me and baby:). Was pretty crowded! I know as DH took some video footage (once DS was out, not during labour!)

If you're ill or pre-eclampsia etc then they can keep you in ages. I know people who have been in 5 weeks

MissMarjoribanks · 19/12/2010 19:59

DS was born at 33 weeks and I was in for just 2 days. It was my choice though as I wanted to get the hell out of the post natal ward, it was noisy, horrible and I got no sleep. I could have stayed for a week.

We only lived 5 minutes from the hospital so I was much happier in my own bed - slept well in the circumstances and was able to face the exhausting round of all day and much of the evening at SCBU with at least some sleep in me.

Oh, and in the room I had DH, 3 midwives, 1 obs consultant, 1 obs registrar, 1 paed nurse practitioner, 1 paed consultant and some randoms (prob students). I knew I was getting close to giving birth when the number of people in the room just kept on increasing and increasing.

When I gave birth I had

DH.

2 midwifes
1 Obs registrar
1 nurse for me (problem with the canula at the last minute - I pulled it out and the obs couldn't get it back.

1 Neonatal consultant (wilf - he is wonderful)
2 neonatal registrars
2 expert neonatal practitioners
1 person who I think is called a specialist registrary fellow
1 sister
1 emergency resucitation officer
(and i think another nurse and sister but can't be sure of the last bit)

I wouldn't have known all of them who were there for DS apart from the fact they used to say - oh I was at his birth when I saw them afterwards. I have to say i was rather surprised myself by the sheer number of them.

and I am so pleased some of you go a kiss first. I didn't and its one of the things I rremember is that I didn't really see him until several hours later, and recall dsicussing with DH what we would do if he died before I had any news of how he was. I wouldn't wish that on anyone
