Something For The Weekend was on in the background this morning.
The presenters were cooking, and one of them picked up an orange and mentioned they always used to get given one in their stocking.

Louise - a mum of two young boys - said something along the lines of "if I put that in my son's stocking he'd be furious".

Thanks, Louise, for saying a stupid thing on a family prog, when kids are around to hear it

Yes, I thought exactly the same! Although, I think it was one of the guests who said his mum still put one in his stocking and then Louise said that about her sons.

I was really pleased the DC were not listening at the time.

piprabbit · 05/12/2010 15:02

It wouldn't matter to me if my stocking were filled with jewels and treasures - I'd still want a satsuma in the toe...

Its the John Lewis advert that gets me -normally shown on first ad break of x factor when my children are up on a saturday night.

The parents smuggle a giant stuffed horse in the house behind the childrens backs and there is also a lady hiding childrens toys up in the loft! Thanks John Lewis!

Louise Redknapp makes me irrationally angry. I only watched it this morning because the lovely Mr Nicky Wire was on, and wanted to kick the telly after about 10 minutes of her inane witterings.

panettoinydog · 05/12/2010 20:14

Furious at an orange?

Anger problem.

vmcd28 · 05/12/2010 23:34

??? Confused

Panettoinydog and vmcd28 - No, it's the fact she said 'if I put it in', meaning not Santa. She is suggesting that parents fill the stockings Shock

SlowComfortableShrew · 06/12/2010 11:21

she's such a annoying woman...

SantaIsMyLoveSlave · 06/12/2010 11:24

Well, yes, you would be annoyed if your parents put anything in your stocking, because that would leave less room for Santa to put stuff in, obviously.

pleasechange · 06/12/2010 11:26

Where is the original presenter? Is she on mat leave or did they replace her?

vmcd28 · 06/12/2010 15:59

Jetgirl, I know - I was the original poster!
I was confused at panettoinydog's post...

panettoinydog · 06/12/2010 16:56

oh I see!

How many young kids watch Something for the Weekend with any interest whatsoever? None.

I can't watch it for more than 3 minutes at a time due to exteme boredom or extreme irritation due to that blond bloke.

panettoinydog · 06/12/2010 16:57

I thought the op was commenting at the spoiled-brattish response of Louise R's son.

vmcd28 · 06/12/2010 18:53

Panettoinydog, :)

I don't think many kids actively "watch" it, but my 5yo ds actually likes the cookery segments and would have been paying attention if he'd been in the room at the time! And even if he's not physically watching tv, he takes everything in, esp if they are talking about Xmas!
Final point, from what I gather, kids up to the end of primary school often still believe, so they are defo able to pick up comments like this from the tv.

OP posts:
panettoinydog · 06/12/2010 18:58

They can theory pick up the comment but in practice would not be watching Something for the Weekend Grin

I honestly cannot imagine a child who would watch that.

panettoinydog · 06/12/2010 18:58

They can in theory

jetgirl · 06/12/2010 19:00

Sorry vmcd28, I didn't scroll back to the top when I put my bit in Blush

As an aside, I find Louise redknapp really irritating, she never seems to properly try the food, just sort of picks at it. Eat something, woman!

vmcd28 · 06/12/2010 19:42

Jetgirl, :)
I find her irritating too, and her hair always looks like it needs a good wash. Weird- if I was on tv I'd always have clean hair at the very least.

Panettoinydog, as I said I don't imagine any child "watching" it either, but the points in my previous post still stand!

PressureDrop · 06/12/2010 19:43

The Redknapps are probably going to spend all Christmas day on their Wii Wink

A stocking ain't a stocking without a satsuma and a handful of Quality Street hastily grabbed from the tin!

BaroqinAroundTheChristmasTree · 06/12/2010 19:48

I always thought having an orange/satsuma/clementine (whichever was on offer at the time) was really stupid and got thoroughly fed up of them. One year my mum said she'd miss it out,........and forgot and I did get slightly mad I think Blush
