We had that age group as well! Very concerned - my ds has 3 dummies to go to bed - Am I going to be calling on Supernanny in a year's time!!!!

compo · 22/09/2005 10:25

I rwally felt for that woman and her mum. It was lovely to see her dancing at the end.

PrettyCandles · 22/09/2005 10:27

I don't see what the issue was with the dummies at bedtime, nor, for that matter, why he had to be toilet-trained just then. Surely it would have been better to sort out the behavioural problems, wait until the mum was secure in the new system - a couple of months at least - before adding new challenges?

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 22/09/2005 10:29

anyone see the clip for next weeks?! OMG - what sort of parents try to ram food in a childs mouth like that?!

compo · 22/09/2005 10:30

I think the dummies and nappies were a part of him thinking he was still the baby though and therefore resenting wee Kyle

PC - I think Supernanny was just trying to demonstrate to mum and boy that he is no longer a baby.

Is Supernanny pregnant, do you think?

Zephyrcat · 22/09/2005 10:31

There was a Mum at the nursery I used to work at who was like that - her DS was about 8/9 months old - if that - and he wasn't brill with eating his solids so she used to hold his nose so he had to open his moouth then shove it in!

compo · 22/09/2005 10:32

don't think so, she's always had a bit of a tummy on her. Is it her dh who marrates the programme - Nick Frost I think his name is

compo · 22/09/2005 10:33

Zephrycat? eh? are you talking about next week's programme? that one has a 7 year old fussy eater on it but hasn't been aired yet. Last night's wasn't to do with eating at all iirc

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 22/09/2005 10:33

compo - i asked if anyone had seen the clip for next weeks..... scary viewing by the looks of it

Zephyrcat · 22/09/2005 10:34

sorry i was answering to jessicaandbumpsmummy's comment!

Iklboo · 22/09/2005 10:34

That ckip for next week was shocking
What does that mother think she's doing to the child? No wonder he's food phobic if she leans in and tries ramming food in his mouth like that! I can't wait to watch next week now!

3PRINCESSES · 22/09/2005 10:35

I wondered that too, compo. Does that make us quite sad?

Nasty cold sore last night... ouch.

compo · 22/09/2005 10:36

ooh sorry didn't see JABM comment I can't wait to see next week's either - the mum looked awful didn't she?

PrettyCandles · 22/09/2005 10:39

My 2.9yo is still in nappies, my 5yo wears nappies at night, and they both have their bedtime milk out of a spouty beaker - they're not babies either! I agree that the dummies and nappies had to be dealt with, but can you imagine what it was like after Supernanny and the cameras had left for good? I would love to know how the mum coped afterwards...did the little boy actually toilet-train, or did it become another weapon for him to use to wind his mummy up?

I think this is a brilliant programme - there's lots to be learnt from it, even if you don't have 'challenging' children - but I think that, in the interest of drama, they make it far too short-term. The parents need Supernanny's support for far longer if they are to succede with long-term changes. Ultimately the lack of short-term success undermines Supernanny's influence.

Zephyrcat · 22/09/2005 10:44

She looks scary doesn't she Compo?! Half the time it amazes me that the parents wonder why their kids are like it!!

I think Supernanny quite liked last night's Mum - sometimes you can tell when she obviously thinks the parents are a nightmare!!

kiera · 22/09/2005 11:15

I was totally shocked by the clip of next week's, I'd call that abuse, which I suppose was the aim of it to get us to watch it. If this is what she does when the cameras on on her what is she like in private? Poor kid. Mind you we all have a breaking point I suppose and we all lose it at times. You would think though with her weight problems she would be more aware of not setting up her boy with eatinhg problems too, I know I am very careful not to force my boy and try not to make a big deal out of it. Someone it might have been the HV warned me that if you make a big deal out of it they use it against you to wind you up.

Love this programme, always pick up so many good tips. That woman was me two years ago. Husband had left and I was on my own with an out of control 3 yr old (fortunately not in nappies or dummies) and a 6 month old baby. Sadly, no Jo Frost to help me. DS was so bad took him to child psychologist. However, pleased to report that with some serious spine stiffening on my behalf & a few parenting manuals, he is now a lovely, mostly well behaved, well mannered nearly 6 yr old. I am now a completely committed believer in consistency & consequences.
Clip of next week's episode did look awful but I guess they will show the worst to draw us in!

dinosaur · 22/09/2005 11:36

Well, dealing with a persistent non-eater is very frustrating and upsetting and worrying. Of course losing your temper and trying to ram the food in the child's gob is not "perfect parenting" but I did have a bit of a "there but for the grace of God" moment when I saw that trailer, I must say.

unicorn · 22/09/2005 21:15

Watched this on video tonight.

I hate the use of incidental music in this programme... it trivialises many of the bad behaviour 'snapshots' (putting child back to bed 100 times/trying to get him in bath etc).

I think it is attempting to make 'entertainment' out of someones misery - out of order IMO.

I plan to e-mail the producers.

starshaker · 22/09/2005 21:16

i missed it does it get repeated
