Cbbc - WTF?

Turned over from cbeebies to Cbbc earlier to let dd (6) soak up some pudsey atmos and am shocked that it is celebrity endorsement after celebrity endorsement. I'm pissed off to see constant referemces to what I thought was post watershed material, such as Gordon Ramsay and the apprentice. WTF? Is it always like this? It seems there is a big void for kids between the age of seven and twelve on the tv. My dd is not ready for this, but has grown out of cbeebies. Maybe it was just coz it's CIN, although I suspect it's like this all the time. If it is I guess it's the off button for the foreseeable future as I don't want my dcs exposed to that lot of toss pots on a regular basis. Why can't it be neutral viewing ffs?

ds is nearly 9 and still likes Cbeebies!

7 - 12 year olds have varied interests and I would doubt you'd get a 12 year old watching CBBC much

Horrible Histories is a great prog as is Sarah Jane Adventures and cultural reference points are useful.

am so pleased to have the last of iggle piggly poppet and puke behind me

a 9 year old likes Cbeebies? regularly?

the odd thing maybe but regularly?

really?

looks askance

Well it's on for 21 month old dd but I've noticed there's little complaint when Zingzillas is on.

Judge away.

I'd rather he watched Come Outside than Tracy Beaker any day.

Other than that he doesn't watch any other children's programmes but does watch pre-watershed adult tv at weekends, like Countryfile and Robot wars.

not judging

why would I care what a 9 year old does

mine is currently hiding under the duvet with a torch reading Calvin and Hobbes - I should do the 'lights out evil mama' thing but I can't be bothered tbh

I do approve of some of the progs, especially the ones you have mentioned, although that house one tonight was all about dating and coppin off. Sorry, but that is not what I want my dcs to be lapping up while unwinding after school. It's also the screenzine stuff in between where the persenters do their teen culture bit that gets me. Why the eff is Gordon filthy Ramsay anywhere near Kids tv? I'd be happier if my dcs reached adult hood without ever laying eyes on his poxy face.

I took DD to see Gordon Ramsay last year. she loves him!

onimolap · 19/11/2010 22:30

What exactly was Gordon Ramsay on? A CIN special? A one-off guest on a programme? I can't think of anything he's on regularly.

My DCs love watching CBBC: Sarah Jane Adventures, various incarnations of Raven and Trapped, Richard Hammond's Blast Lab, and Horrible Histories are probably their favourites.

spaceman · 19/11/2010 22:39

It was an animated programme filler where his head was dancing alongside a few of the more unsavoury footballers and tarty old pop stars. Then a joke about the apprentice. It's just the assumption that children are allowed to watch tv until ten at night that bothers me, it's fudging the boundaries on our behalf as to what is deemed as exceptable viewing for a, say, ten year old. What age is Cbbc for?

I've missed that. Don't know about the other slebs and how (in)appropriate they might be, but there is a CBBC version of Junior Apprentice. Was it possible that was what they were referencing?

muggglewump · 20/11/2010 10:01

He was at The Good Food Show.

spaceman · 20/11/2010 11:25

Oh. Maybe it was a reference to the junior apprentice. I stand corrected.
