First time I've ever ventured into Telly Adicts, hello all :) I was curious to see what other MNers thought of The Family. I loved the first two series, especially the one with the Indian family, but I'm really not sure about this one. I didn't think the family were very likable. It might improve next week though...

deegee123 · 17/11/2010 07:25

missed it drat Sad

flibbertigibbert · 17/11/2010 12:14

I loved them. I liked the emphasis on hard work and education and having respect for the elders.

I'm probably biased though because the parents are the same generation as my parents who were descended from immigrants, and after hearing about how much of a struggle it was for black people in this country back then I have so much respect for people who have managed to be as successful as the family.

I got a bit emotional watching it because it reminded me of the recent 70th birthday party of a West African relative and her children talked about how proud they were of her for being successful despite all of the 'no dogs, no blacks, no Irish' stuff that went on back then.

At least this family seem more interesting than the Hughes, and far less shouty.

LivinInThe80s · 17/11/2010 12:25

I loved it - both previous series were brilliant too. It's the little things that amuse me, was v.funny when they kept turning the radio off while oldest daughter kept turning it back on!

I really felt the stress of the poor mother trying to get them all out of the house on time, she worked so hard bless her!

ZeroMinusZero · 17/11/2010 13:35

Ah yes, the Hughs weren't all that likable either, I remember now, or at least the parents weren't (I remember the dad being a right berk), so maybe my likable thing doesn't work. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt until next week...

ilove · 17/11/2010 20:16

Yes, I'll watch it next week too...

Oh dear, this week's episode was a bit shocking wasn't it! Julie is not coming across well, although I'm glad she and Ola made up at the end. She obviously has some ishoos, sounds like she left home quite early for reasons as yet unknown - she is 25 I think and they said she has moved back home after 9 years or something so I suppose she just wants the best for her sis ...

rastababi · 24/11/2010 17:44

LivinInThe80s I agree, god Julie was really laying into Ola Sad

To me Julie seems to almost resent Ola, she seems bitter that Ola has been given a better chance than what she had. She seemed really Hmm when she was talking about Ola's private education.

candyfluff · 26/11/2010 18:58

what is julies problem - horrible sister

Shimmerysilverglitteryfairy · 30/11/2010 22:13
