Merlin - fourth series?

Does anyone know if there will be a fourth series?

IMO it's time Arthur finds out Merlin has magic, he becomes king and they call it a day. Still enjoy watching it every week with ds, but there's only so many storylines with Merlin saving the day without getting any credit for it!

Why 2012? Is there not a series next year? I hate that- I forget the plot. Especially as next year is going to be filled with lack of sleep, weeping and wailing (and that's even before I have the baby!)

taffetazatyousantaclaus · 04/12/2010 21:34

Oh that was a good series finale. I think you'll find that Arthur is mine. I rather enjoyed his round table speech. But am equally happy to watch him with the sound down. Xmas Grin

Merlin has a wonderful smile. Such great acting from the cast. DS and I will be bereft on Saturday nights now and have no excuse for asking DH to put DD to bed before it starts. Xmas Sad

Lancelot knew about Merlin's magic pretty much from the start. Well, anyway, from the episode in the first series in which he was first seen.

I believe the next series is not going to be shown until 2012 although I think there is a rumour it will be shown from January 2012 onwards, rather than starting in September (so it might only be a quarter of a year extra wait).

It is also only going to be 10 episodes (which would fit in well between Christmas and Easter). Shorter series because of budget cuts in the BBC Xmas Sad

that was a fab finale
you should have heard ds's squeeing when Merlin put the sword in the stone...
oh twas fab, and Lancelot is gorgeous

DGirlsandBoysWontGetAnyToys · 04/12/2010 21:39

Loved the round table scene. Particularly loved Gwaine saying "it won't work but I'll come anyway" and then Merlin saying "nah I don't fancy it" when asked by Arthur to join him. It was obvious coming, but no less funny for that.

GettinTrimmer · 04/12/2010 21:39

Arthur still doesn't know Merlin has magic, he must wonder how the immortal army were defeated. At least it's hotted up from the endless storylines of Merlin saving the day without any rewards.

Agree great finale.

Ingles2 · 04/12/2010 21:40

we all laughed at that too Dgirls.... it was great.

KayHarker · 04/12/2010 21:41

What a squee fest. Totally loved it. And isn't Lancelot pretty. Yum. But I still want Merlin, gorgeous smile.

GettinTrimmer · 04/12/2010 21:44

I have just ordered a book for ds about the legend of Arthur, just out of interest (can't remember!) - if anybody knows - in the legend does Arthur put excalibur back in the stone?

KayHarker · 04/12/2010 21:47

No, Arthur retrieves the sword from the stone, and at the end of his life asks one of the knights to throw it back into the lake where a hand comes out of the water and catches it.

DGirlsandBoysWontGetAnyToys · 04/12/2010 21:47

I thought Arthur pulls the sword out of the stone (only man who could) and then keeps it with him until his impending death (sorry to spoil anyone's expectations that Arthur will live forever! Xmas Wink) when he gives it to Sir Bedivere to throw it back into the lake from whence it originally came.

But there are so many versions of the legend.

GettinTrimmer · 04/12/2010 21:59

I saw in the radio times that channel 4 have a King Arthur thing coming. Maybe they are waiting until 2012 to avoid that, will have to google.

Also in the legend, Gwendolin has a fling with Lancelot? They are using bits and pieces of it.

GettinTrimmer · 04/12/2010 22:01

The dragon said also, leave the sword where noone can find it, so merlin sticks it in a stone with the top visible Hmm surprised he didn't throw it back in the lake.

KayHarker · 04/12/2010 22:06

Guinevere doesn't have a fling with Lancelot until she's married to Arthur - though they are clearly laying groundwork with the subtle glances in that episode.

GettinTrimmer · 04/12/2010 22:10

just found this link twilightwhisper.com/gossip/Channel-4-picks-up-Camelot-series-3650703.html

channel 4 are doing this. Joseph Fiennes!! you can keep Lancelot

taffetazatyousantaclaus · 04/12/2010 22:22

GettinTrimmer - do you mind me asking which book you have ordered your DS and what age he is? My DS is 7 and I am thinking of getting one for him. Any recommendations? Not the Merlin books themselves, for some reason, he's not keen on them.

TmiEdward · 04/12/2010 22:24

I want to do very unchivalrous things with Gawain, Arthur and Lancelot.
Possibly all at the same time.

Merlin can watch.

taffetazatyousantaclaus · 04/12/2010 22:26

PMSL @ tmi Xmas Grin

BCBG · 04/12/2010 22:28

taffeta - the best books on the legends ever written Grin are the Mary Stewart ones: The Crystal Cave, the Hollow Hills and The last Enchantment...... they gave me a lasting and forever love of the Merlin story: they are still available on Amazon and I have just bought them again for my 17 yr old DS

GettinTrimmer · 04/12/2010 22:29

taffeta The book people - a set of "classic tales" including "King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table." 8 books for £8.99 author is Marcia Williams. Told in comic strip form. Also Greek Myths, Shakespeare, Dickens.

TmiEdward · 04/12/2010 22:32

Marcia Williams books are beautifully illustrated, I'd highly recommend them. Recently read her Robin Hood book with DS1 (5)

noeyedear · 04/12/2010 22:32

I thought he was going to throw the sword back in the lake too. Doesn't Merlin fall in love with the Lady in the Lake in the original story? I thought that was going to be Freya. I did love the sword in the stone bit though. Got a little tingle!

GettinTrimmer · 04/12/2010 22:32

I'll have a look at those too BCBG, these only work out at £1 each so though I'd give them a go.

Grin tmi you can keep Arthur and Lancelot

GettinTrimmer · 04/12/2010 22:33

Have you also read the Greek Myths one tmi?

noeyedear · 04/12/2010 22:34

Do you think I could read those books as well? DS is too little at 2 and I may be too old at 36!
