I feel like I should reply to this.

Not because I watched it, or have any interest in it, but because its a random thread title Grin

However, I once watched a programme on the Nat Grid, and they used to have to prepare for the end of Eastenders because the demand would go wild with all the kettles going on!!

sethstarkaddersmummyreturns · 26/10/2010 22:01

they certainly do. they all sit there in a control room (in a secret location....) with the tv on getting tense.
honest!

Yes! I remember that bit. The man described it along the lines of split second timing or it would be carnage!!

It was serious stuff :\

sethstarkaddersmummyreturns · 26/10/2010 22:26

very serious.
the thing that blew my mind most was about the pylons - the ones we see everywhere - they are the original ones, 80 years old!

Pylons are fascinating!

OhYouBadBadGhostie · 26/10/2010 22:34

wish I had known this was on!

mummytime · 26/10/2010 22:37

Do you think its on iplayer?

ThighsWideShitItsAGhost · 26/10/2010 22:42

Look at those two, being all sarky and gatecrashing our convo Wink

OhYouBadBadGhostie · 27/10/2010 07:37
Grin so when is it repeated?
sethstarkaddersmummyreturns · 27/10/2010 09:51

they repeated it last night at midnight for some reason. I expect there'll be a bestselling dvd though Wink
the good news is, it was the first in a series.

It was very interesting, wasn't it. It's one of those things that you don't think about, you just take it for granted. I was amazed that it was only instituted in the twenties, you think that it would be older than that.

When they first started wind-farms, I was anti but then I thought "would I have said the same about electric pylons, which are a Very Good Thing" and I softened my view a bit. It's the shock of the new innit.

Deliaskis · 27/10/2010 10:08

I got strangely into this too, after having had my fun mocking DH for watching such a geeky programme. Bit Hmm though that this seems to be the first in a multi-part series...not sure what else they're going to tell us!

So yes I liked it, but don't like that I liked it as it made me lose face/eat my words with DH!

D

mousymouse · 27/10/2010 11:11

really interesting. especially at the end when they timed the electricity flow with the end of eastenders and corrie... never knew that had such a big effect.

Caoimhe · 27/10/2010 11:48

Want to watch this on iplayer but afraid that dh will look at me like this [hhmm]!

Brasso4 · 27/10/2010 11:49

It was fab! I love this sort of show.
