Why is there no thread on the birth in Waterloo rd?

Further adding to the realistic portrayal of school life - we had a classic 'tv birth'. Janeece suddenly goes into labour with a gushing of her waters and incredibly strong labour pains from the very beginning. Ambulance to hospital where she gives birth fully clothed with a lot of screaming (no grunting or mooing) and is immediately presented with a clean, unwrinkled, suspiciously large (considering it was prem?) baby. And then just a few hours later she is walking normally back from the loo and not looking like a cowboy who's been riding all day.
I will concede that she did give birth standing up so we didn't have the traditional 'lying back with legs in stirrups' shot. But would it kill programme makers to portray a different type of birth - you know the ones where labour goes on for days and you don't just bounce back to normal within a few hours etc etc

Agree comletely. The entire Janeece storyline is bordering on the ridiculous anyway. She can't just give the baby to Ruby, it doesn't work like that in real life! It says on coming up that they want the adoption recognisdd as quickly as possible, but they can't do that if SS didn't give them the baby. Tehy'll just be the baby's private foster carers. I know foster careers can apply for an adoption order after 12 months, but does that include private ones as well as state carers?

Basically, my point is it's really confusing when they do storylines that don't add up and are really unrealistic - would it kill to be realistic once in a while?? sudden labour was quite funny actually!!

would poi tout that I do like WR however unrealistic it is -I have a hot date with the sofa every Wed night, so woe betide you if you want to watch anything else at that time in my house!!

Well there IS a thread, isn't there? Yours. I have never seen the programme and am barely aware the show exists. What an odd thread title.

Yeah yeah ok coldcomfortfarm - its just that I watched it and thought 'there must be a thread on mumsnet about this' and was surprised that there wasn't hence the thread title..
I think it got forgotten with all the excitement of the apprentice..

I was wondering too. I agree the labour was a bit unrealistic, but wasn't it nice to see a labour standing up and with no Holby City/Casualty style complications?

I know the screaming might have been OTT, but what struck me was how acceptable it was. Neither the midwife (I think that's what she was) nor Ruby seemed to have a problem with Janeece screaming if that was what she needed to push the baby out.

All in all, I thought it was one of the more positive births I've seen on telly.

As to the adoption thing, don't you think Janeece is probably going to change her mind?

And, irrelevantly, but this does relate to Waterloo Road, does anyone besides me fancy Mr. Meade just a little bit? I think it's the dimples.

But then, my taste has gotten a little strange since I've been pregnant. I started to fancy Lt. Cmdr. Data on Star Trek: The Next Generation.

Hmmm, I defo think that Janeece will raise her baby. No i don't fancy Mr mead although i see why you do!! I would go for Francesca every time Grin

TheUnmentioned · 08/10/2010 18:05

Isnt the baby really prem though - I thought Janeece was only about 6/7 months pregnant.

funtimewincies · 09/10/2010 19:20

I gave birth fully clothed (except for my trousers) so it's not completely unrealistic Grin!
