In the last series her kids were portrayed as just kids, coming in from school looking for grub. In this programme her daughter looked like a mini Nigella, posing at every shot, totally made up. Ugggh

LowLevelWhiingeing · 30/09/2010 23:32

Her books are amazing. Her telly is cringey. (soz Nigella, I do love you!)

Y'all must try the chocolate salty balls Salted Peanut Chocolate Crunchie things. Blumming ace and a piece of piss.

employmentlawquery · 01/10/2010 04:30

The book is 9.99 in Sainsbos, the cheapest i've seen it.

Bumperlicious · 01/10/2010 06:29

Ohhhh I need a mixer! When do the lidl offers start?

scaryteacher · 01/10/2010 09:44

The new book is great and I've cooked a couple of things already, which were very good. Express is good as well; I cook some recipes from there every 10 days.

NigellaPleaseComeDineWithMe · 01/10/2010 10:46

How do I invite the lovely Nigella to dinner so we can share some inner thigh wobbles??

GetOrfMoiLand · 01/10/2010 10:50

I love her. I think she is utterly wonderful. Yes the rictus grin is slightly spooky, yes she is as camp as christmas, but she is great.

Please god can I look like her when I am 50? Cheers.

GetOrfMoiLand · 01/10/2010 10:53

I was a bit Hmm about Kitchen when I first bought it, as I thought it was a bit formless, didn't have a theme as her other books.

However, I am starting to really see the potential in it, and I love the leftovers ideas. Can actually be really useful I see.

I never bake cakes so her baking recipes are normally lost on me, however I am going to try the peanut butter cheesecake.

One thing though with Nige is that her asian based recipes are distinctly underspiced, have to add more spices and heat to anything thai/vietnamese/indian ish recipes I find.

How horrible to call her children ugly. They are teenagers, so have a bit of gawkiness. Dear god what a nasty comment.

LowLevelWhiingeing · 01/10/2010 11:38

Bloody hell monstrously ugly children Shock WTF???

Well out of order. Angry

neytiri · 01/10/2010 11:39

watching it on iplayer now, have always liked nigella's recipes, and was quite hopeful that she was gracefully embracing being 50, but her face is looking frozen.

GetOrfMoiLand · 01/10/2010 11:41

If that is the result of Botox, book me in now.

Mind you, the chances of my looking like her at 50 are drastically reduced, I supposed, by the fact I look like a hatchet faced worzel at the age of 32

neytiri · 01/10/2010 11:54

the cheesecake tin looked a bit like this to me, silicone springform cake tin

GetOrfMoiLand · 01/10/2010 11:56

That baking tin is great for £14 neytiri.

i am going to buy one I think. DD is a great lover of baking and she has had enough of my crappy old tins.

MimieD · 01/10/2010 12:34

The springform is similar only Nigella used one with a ceramic base which conducts heat better, Amazon's got them.

StayingDavidTennantsGirl · 01/10/2010 13:41

I enjoyed it - I may well have a go at the peanut butter cheesecake (I suspect the dses would love it) and I do have a very wibbly inner-thigh so should be able to judge its readiness to perfection!! Grin

I like the sound of the chicken noodle soup too - I have recently become a convert to the asian flavours (especially red chilli, ginger and lemon grass) so I might adapt the soup recipe and see if it tastes as nice in reality as it looks.

I have to say, though, that I Don't Trust those silicone baking tins - it is agin nature to be putting wobbly plastic into the oven - no good will come of it, I tell you!!

neytiri · 01/10/2010 14:00

i haven't got the book yet but have written down the recipes for both the pasta dis and the soup, both are just the kind of thing i would cook. but nigella... she has that kylie/frozen face and pillow cheek look.

GetOrfMoiLand · 01/10/2010 14:24

Lol at STDG's cats bum mouth at MODERN WORLD coloured plastic baking appliances.

StayingDavidTennantsGirl · 01/10/2010 14:31

It's the start of a slippery slope. Don't say I didn't warn you all, when there are Tears Before Bedtime! Grin

NigellaPleaseComeDineWithMe · 01/10/2010 14:44

Got email from my mate;

"enjoyed watching Nigella making the clam linguini last night not sure whether the refernce to a 'strong rich liquor' was about the dish or her husband." Grin

GetOrfMoiLand · 01/10/2010 14:45

lol at 'strong rich liquor'

StayingDavidTennantsGirl · 01/10/2010 14:51

Well - it's a better description of a bloke than mayonnaise-y - ie rich, thick and oily!

AgentProvocateur · 01/10/2010 15:54

There are few threads about Nigella's book/tv prog. Would it be useful or overkill to start another one where we could discuss what we'd made from the book?

Anyway, I made the Guinness Gingerbread this afternoon, but I'm not sure if it will be OK.

Firstly, you need a HUGE pan, because when you add the flour and bicarbonate of soda, the liquid all froths up. But when I added the flour and BoS, there was a horrible fishy-Copydex-y smell.

It's now in the oven, and the house is not filled with the warming aroma of gingerbread.

Anyone else tried this?

AgentProvocateur · 01/10/2010 15:56

Actually, I've just gone through to the kitchen and it smells vile Sad

GetOrfMeLenin · 01/10/2010 15:58

Agent - a Nigella Kitchen thread would be great, I know that Fellatio was talking about something similar yesterday.

GetOrfMeLenin · 01/10/2010 16:01

Lol agent you are NOT convincing us with that gingerbread description

A poster on another thread has tried the peanut cheesecake and says it was 'orrible.

Perhaps the threas should be entitled - Nigella Kitchen - do any of these recipes bloody work.
