Shameless promotion for dd - tonight's Embarrassing Bodies

Okay, I am being shameless here and have posted this in two places but my dd makes a return appearance on the Embarrassing Bodies back to the clinic tonight on 5 at 9pm. her first episode aired back in May on the kids series and we went to them for help (after years of brick wall with GP and speech therapists) with a dribbling problem. Lots happened, there were more problems then we ever thought and it all shows what can happen when problems a child is born with are not picked up early. Thanks and sorry for the shamelessness of my promotion Blush

I watch it sometimes although I have to say I never do really get why some people go on there to show certain areas of their bodies!

However, I do like stories that sound like your daughters!

I know what you are saying about some of the adult ones, my guess for some it is desperation, you can feel like you are invisible trying to get help from the normal places sometimes, the show are really good in not exploiting (well they were with us anyway) the first question they ask when you start the process is 'have you see your GP, what have you already done/tried to do to get this sorted, what do your own health care professionals think?'
It was a really hard decision to make in regards to putting Hemmie on the show, I only applied out of desperation and feeling that I had to try every route possible, never in a million years expected for them to offer to help, I am not over exaggerating when I say they have helped change her whole life and make her future much brighter.
The never pressured us into anything and gave us more than enough time to think things through, I always try and defend them to a point as going in I held in my mind that they were making a TV show and that was the first priority for them, found out quickly I was wrong, my child and our family was the most important thing.
Because Hemmie was/is so young and the problems are in her mouth it made the decision easier, there is nothing shown that she could be teased about, we did talk to her about it but to be honest at 4 she was not capable of making a decision for herself about going on the show, if she had been older the decision would have been hers alone or her problems in a more, lets say, private area I am really not sure if we would have done it, probably not.
She is 5 now and in Y1, she became a minor celebrity in her small village school when it first aired, all very positive, was so lovely when she came how telling me how some of the older girls had said she was a star and so lucky to be on TV, it has been a 100% positive experience for us. Sorry for the long post, I can talk for England!

Aww bless her, I watched it when she was first on I'm glad all has improved! She's so pretty and quite!! My dd is 4 and not as calm as your dd!! So come on tell us, how many takes etc does it take?! Is it pretty rehersed in a studio setting? Although I know the patients etc are for real I'm just being nosey as to how it works!!

She can be a real live wire but she is shy and the speech issues really knocked her confidence, I cried tonight hearing her speak on camera, she had never done that before but the improvements surgery brought have really boosted her confidence talking with strangers, since surgery she has also spoken (a couple of words but still) in front of the whole church at Christmas and most of the village at the annual May Day party. We were all quite shocked when she spoke at the last filming, they couldn't mike her up due to her dress fabric and we were all laughing saying it wasn't a problem as she never spoke on camera and then she turned into a right chatter box lmao!
The filming in studio is quite straight forward, you go in, speak to the doc, Dr Dawn in our case the same way you would your GP and they film it, you kind of have to forget about the cameras, when you have had the consultation they then go back and Dr Dawn asks the questions and says her bits again (the director takes notes of exactly what Dr says) so they can film her face and reactions as the first run is on the patient. They then do a load of walking in and out shots and some wide shot where we are just talking about all sorts of things. The most long winded bit is the walking down corridor shots, you spend about an hour of more walking up and down corridors and across the courtyard again and again and again. The other bits like the ENT consult they just film as it happens and then at the end go over any bits that they need a different angle. They came to our home one day in last October half term to film some bits, they spent a whole day trailing me round the village and we did a load of craft activities that they filmed, I think they used all of 10 seconds of the stuff at home and they a couple of mins in the first programme of me talking about her having the operation in the village churchyard (only place with a bench in the village without villages about all the time lol!).
I have to admit that I forgot about the fact I was being filmed allot when we were at the hospital, I was focused on Hemmie, hard to think you can forget but you do just get used to it!
The doctors and the production company are all very lovely (I only met Dr Dawn each doctor does a different day filming so you only meet your own), Dawn is a Mum herself and a practicing GP so really normal doctor just glammed up for the telly lol!
Thank you for the complements to Hemmie, she really is a little star, she has gone through allot and I think she is the most beautiful girl in the world but I would, she is mine Grin.
