The Harrowing

Ken Stott returns as the beetle-browed Detective Chief Inspector Red Metcalfe in this three-part serial-killer drama (concluding Tuesday). It's hardly sunny summer TV fare: a young woman is found locked in a van on a landfill site. In there with her are 40,000 bees that have stung her to death. Scrawled in blood on the inside of the windscreen are the words "SAVE ME". The body count rises as the killer gets more inventive, while Red and his team are perplexed in their bid to find a link between the victims. Though classier than most productions involving the torture and sadistic murder of women, much of this is still pretty revolting. But you might
find yourself compelled, thanks to Stott's charismatic presence.

I don't get it, whose book was it?

Prettybird · 31/08/2005 11:39

It was Isobel's book - the girl who committed suicide.

Her mother found it afterwards in her bedroom - so knew she had committed suicide, but was somehow inspired by the narrative of Dante's Inferno to somehow bring her daughter back. I think she thought that that was what her daughter had been asking for.

poptot · 31/08/2005 15:06

thanks but why was she so screwed up, I gather she had had an affair with the first victim but why the next few was it to try and bring her daughter back? Save her soul?

RTKangaMummy · 31/08/2005 15:18

I think she thought she was going to save Izzy soul by following what the book had said

but IMHO a weird ending

I agree with RTKangamummy: she thought that it would bring her daughter back - or at least her soul, by following what the book said. Apparently in the book, Virgil(?) does save one soul. That's why she was agitating on the top of the roof at the end that "she should be here".
