OMG!

NONE of these young people are using condoms?!

WTF?!

I was 11 when AIDS starting taking hold in the US.

Was religious about condom use.

WHY are these people so cavalier about STIs?!

because they're thick?

ledodgy · 26/07/2010 21:24

There's no scary soap stories about them anymore. Seriously this is the way to go. I would never do heroin because of Zammo in Grange Hill and Heather's boyfriend in Brookside. I would never have unprotected sex due to the Mark Fowler story in Eastenders...

ledodgy · 26/07/2010 21:26

God I didn't know there was a same day HIV test result!

ASecretLemonadeDrinker · 26/07/2010 21:28

It's shocking I do always think of Mark Fowler riding off on his motorbike when I hear about HIV - I wouldn't know much about it (well, I wouldn't have until 18/19+) if it wasn't for that. I think in school they say "use a condom" (not ours mind - Catholic) but I think they need to go one step further - pictures and details of STIs etc.

AmpleBosom · 26/07/2010 21:34

ASecretLemonadeDrinker i used to show pictures of STI's (Well the aftermath of them) when i taught sex ed as part of my job as a school nurse, i'm now too busy doing child protection....it will only get worse

ledodgy · 26/07/2010 21:35

They do show pics on things like the sex education Show and embarrassing Illnesses though.

PaulineCampbellJones · 26/07/2010 21:39

Am a bit shocked at the lad that said getting chlamydia was cool. WTF!

expatinscotland · 26/07/2010 21:40

What is with people? That's so sad. They're not taking their pill. How messed up.

I already talk to my girls about sex and contraception.

She forgot about her appointments?! FFS.

darksideofthemooncup · 26/07/2010 21:42

This is why sex education is so important. teenagers by their very nature think they are invincible..I know a young guy of 21 that was diagnosed with HIV recently...it is so terribly sad but also very preventable.

Sidge · 26/07/2010 21:51

This is one of the saddest programmes I've seen in ages.

16 and HIV positive? Fucking hell.

When I was a school nurse I spoke to a 15 year old girl who was having anal sex because she thought she wouldn't get an STI that way

expatinscotland · 26/07/2010 21:55

these people just think so little of themselves, that's the heart of it.

why?

this girl shannon just cares nothing for herself.

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 26/07/2010 21:56

she can't even talk to a female doctor who is trying to help her about this. WTF?!

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 26/07/2010 21:58

I'm so glad she did it.

Now imagine, if services this get cut in budget cuts. How short-sighted and foolish.

OP posts:
Sidge · 26/07/2010 22:03

Shannon needs to cop on to herself.

Thank god she's got her implant in now.

expatinscotland · 26/07/2010 22:11

She's still at major risk of damaging her health through STIs, though, including HIV or HepC.

OP posts:
mousymouse · 26/07/2010 22:24

my sister is a teacher and gave her pupils (15-16 years old) the package leaflets of some of the HIV medications to read. scary stuff, really long lists of side effects, and HIV positive people should take these meds all the time...
for example this is the info about the med the girl in the film is supposed to take.

EvilTwins · 26/07/2010 22:48

I'm a teacher, and have recently done a play with my VI Form class about a teenage boy who contracted AIDS (cheery stuff) The play is set in the 80s, when both my and the teacher I share the class with were growing up. We were shocked at their lack of knowledge about HIV and AIDS. I guess when we were growing up it was much more high profile (I remember the TV "ads" with the huge gravestone)
