Preteen has suddenly over night developed lady curves

DD only just 9 has just put on quite a bit of weight in a small time frame. That's fine as she's always been skinny, why I don't know as she eats like a horse.

I have noticed a waist but then yesterday she was in the garden naked (water play) with her back to me and she's developing lovely curves. Her sholders are broader her waist skinnier and hips are coming with a lovely round bottom (11-12 pants fit perfect). I was shocked that my baby could be growing up so fast then she turned round and their was my little girl with her baby pot belly.

Can I expect to keep seeing puberty changes very suddenly or will I still have my little girl for a little while yet. I know she has to grow up but 9's so young. She'll have the body of a lady before she get to secondary school if she carry on like this.

When my daughter was 9 she started developing very rapidly, curves etc and within a few months proper boobs. By the time she was 10 she was in a bra and very conscious of her rapidly changing body as all of her friends still seemed like skinny little things. In her last primary school photos she is standing at the back slightly stooped as she was so tall compared to the others.Through it all we constantly told her how lovely she was as she was so self conscious. Now she is 13 and at secondary school she is no longer the biggest in the school but fits in as a lot of the girls seem very well developed there, and her confidence is back...reassurance is the key that although they are "curvier" they are still lovely.

Thanks prince at the moment she really proud of becoming a woman but peer pressure is becoming a real problem.

She got slight swelling in the cheast area that started over 1/2 a year ago so I just hoped all the changes would be as slow as they have been up to now. The other thing is everyone tells me the weight gain is probably because she due a growth spur. Do they happen over night as well.

hello, iposted a similar type noticing thread the other day!!

my thread

freaked me out totally!! my dd is 8 and a skinny minny, but i noticed changes over the last week or so. Was I blind before, i don't know.

She's also been saying her nipples are a bit sore.

We had to go and find trousers/bottom half things yesterday as she can't fit into anything!

Growth spurts do seem to happen quickly....mine went from a relatively skinny little thing to suddenly taller and all round (sorry!) plumper within a few months...at 13 now she is a good 2 inches taller than me and I'm no short arse. She has a good appetite tho and her aunt and Grandfather are quite big so some of it is prob genetic...it was the speed of the developement that took me by surprise tho.

Ooh....another thing Lexcat.....don't be temted into buying her winter school uniform too soon.....I made that mistake and ended up carting everything back as she'd grown so much in the 6 week summer hols.

That's one thing that does worry me as I just did get school trouser and a pack of shirts with the buy 2 get one free offer at Marks. They are on the big size now, but don't know if they will still will be come September. She's been fast filling her clothes (in the last couple of months) with everything now fitting or getting a little small.

How much can they grow in 6 weeks? Plus is that feet too as dd's have grown very little in 2 years.

I might put this on AIBU actually....M & S offering deals on school uniforms when they haven't even broken up yet! So that could be 10 weeks before anything is worn and my bet is a lot of kids will have grown by then. Check the receipt - see if you can take it back in 10 wks if it is too small then. Shoes also tricky, might fit now but in 10 weeks time? M & S prob the best bet to buy school uniform as their stuff is on the big size, tho I would be tempted to wait until a few weeks before they go back.

"Growth spurts do seem to happen quickly" is that the norm or are some children slower then others.
