Sorry, dd rising 9 so a bit young for teens but was hoping for support from you lovely teen mumsneters.

I noticed a few months ago she had raised nipples. DD then had tenderness for a few day then within a week, I thought I had imagined the whole thing total flat again. This has continued with days she has enlarged nipples with swelling and sometimes tenderness then a few days later she's totally flat.

Now she started to have periods of really greasy hair (needs washing every other day) before she can go the week without a hair wash.

Is this normal when starting puberty as dd feeling a little confused as am I by the whole thing. Or is it not puberty at all.

I don't know, but it sonds deffo hormonal, and that means stirrings abound!

I am sure someone will know more than me.

erm, swelling and tenderness around nipples definitely normal. Not sure about the coming and going but very possibly.

Greasy hair - oh yes. Soon needs washing every day if they have that lanky, thin british hair like my tow.

My dd1 is 10 and definately on the way too. Her moods are all over the spot.

cocolepew · 29/03/2010 19:35

My DD showed the first signs at this age, puberty starts at 8 yo.

lexcat · 29/03/2010 19:39

If it's hormomal surges how will it take to settle down. Dd getting excited about growing up but a little nervous. Things coming and going is not helping the nerves.

What can dd expect next?

My dd was 9 in January and I have bought her some aluminium-free deodorant to use now. I have noticed some of her friends really whiffing by the end of a long day at school .

We have been talking more often about pubic hair and armpit hair coming, just in a casual way, but I haven't had the big talk about periods with her yet. Must get round to it soon.

borderslass · 30/03/2010 10:44

Had this with dd2 her hair was a mess thought she would start her periods early but she only started them at 13 and that was when her temper calmed down strangly enough. With the greasy hair my hairdresser suggested combing a little talc through the hair and although dubious it works she only needed to wash it once a week after staring to use it.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 30/03/2010 11:12

dd started with those signs (and real moodiness a year ago) she hasn't really moved on at all but her moods have vastly improved. Thank goodness. Just waiting for the next hormone surge.

lexcat · 30/03/2010 13:50

Yes we've had the moods but she's been much better of late.

So you thing the stop start signs of puberty are normal.

yes to breast buds coming and going, my friend's DD had one come and go for a while before it decided to stay, and yes to the tenderness, bloomin sore

When DD was 11 ish, I was tucking her in late on night and I brushed against this small rock hard lump on her chest and I totally was thrown by it before I realised what it was!

She had pubes next, periods started at 12.5 but they haven't settled down yet.
