I know loads of people that went with Quinn. Its meant to be really cheap for youngsters who have just passed. You are best to search as many insurance companies as you can though as they are all looking for slightly different things: age, type of car, location...

If you insure your DD as a named driver and she is actually the main driver of the car, it can invalidate your insurance so I would warn against doing that. Also she won't be able to build up any no-claims bonus. Some companies off named driver no-claims but that is only so they can try and tie you into their company as you have to have a policy with them in your own name to redeem them or transfer them to another company.

We (and some friends) found Admiral to be cheapest, taking out Fully Comp policy with Teen as a named driver. They build up their own no-claims bonus which can only be guaranteed with Admiral - but some other companies DO accept this to sell a policy.

I ENSURE that I take car that car to work every now & again, it is used to run the dog daily & for all trips to Sports centres where parking attrocious (at least 4 times a week). That way, DD cannot be the main driver - she uses it for random excursions/nightclubbing trips etc.

Fords are quite cheap to ensure (a 1.4 KA can be cheaper than a 1L other model).

Beware - any price quoted whilst they are a learner will be MUCH lower than when they have passed!

We're also with Admiral. Had the renewal in Feb and couldn't find anyone cheaper (with affordable excesses!) Put ds as main driver this time and it wasn't anymore expensive than him being named - although he is 20 now.

DD1 is a named driver on DH's car, we changed his car for a fiesta so that DD would be able to drive it. (She is banned from driving it at the moment because she stayed out all night on saturday and we didn't know where she was ) Admiral was the best for us as well - she's still 17 and they were the most reasonable.

DD has her own 1.3 KA and she's insured with Diamond with me as a named driver, she's just coming up to the end of her first year on her policy and her premium was almost £900 for the year. She was 18 when she took out her first policy, she's now 19 and just had her renewal through and her insurance is down to £700. Before that she was on her dad's insurance with Tesco, they did allow her to use her no claims when she got her own car but couldn't come anywhere near Diamond's quote but it did only (uses teh term lightly) cost £250 to add her to our car.

Whew! We just got back from Polos R Us. What an experience. you drive these things before they have had the work done and put a deposit down. The battery went flat whilst we were out and the gear stick popped out. I felt as if I was in some surreal movie.
Really useful adive about the insurance and checking what it will be when she passes. Thanks
