The sex talk -- how did you cover masturbation?

Have an 10 year old boy and need to have the birds and bees talk. Did you cover masturbation and how did you broach it. Do any of the birds and bees books cover this?

I am from a big family of girls and am worried that I wont be able to cover the boys bits so well.

Very quickly, with a duvet when mum walks in - probably

TBH I'd leave it well alone. I don't think boys need any guidance with that do they?

That is so funny...!..Well I mentioned it to a male friend and my husband...the male friend said he was scared.. thought he was going to get pregnant !! and it hurt the first time!!...

I think it's worth at least mentioning to boys that they may sometimes wake up and find they've had an 'accident' and that they don't need to be embarrassed. Then you can run through how to put the washing machine on and make sure they know how to change the bed so that they don't need to mention it if they don't want to.

I don't have teenagers but find myself saying the following to ds1 (5) and ds2 (2)

"You can play with your own penis but not anyone else's."

"We touch certain parts of our body in the bedroom or bathroom but not in the rest of the house because it's a private thing."

Usborne - facts of life covers all teenage issues from both boys and girls point of view.
I think it is worth menitioning so that they don't think it is a bad thing to do. But no need to go into technical details!

If he's in year 6 he will have a 'growing up for boys' talk which was surprisingly comprehensive. In fact DS2 came home in a panic with the notion he'd have accidents all the time and we had to explain it all again. His 72 year old grandma was rather nonplussed as she was having a cuppa when he burst in through the door!

I covered the wet dreams angle but left it at that.
Jabberwocky - my DS s have always done the running around naked thing. They are now 13 and 11 and still inclined to strip off. I believe they grow out of this about age 35.

trust me they know , i had a very cringe moment when had been away with b/f without the kids and we had not unpacked suitcase and youngest ds went looking and toddled into lounge with Mummys and bf toys in hand my eldest ds nearly cried laughing at mine and b/f expressions

they knew exactly what it was ,thank god we have close realtionship and can talk about anything though it still makes me cringe at thought
