It's -3C here, as dd (14) was leaving the house I shouted down to her "It's very icy, wrap up well and go careful" I've just found her coat and gloves in a bundle on her bedroom floor. A coat that cost me £45 ggrrrr!

It's weird- when I was 17 and first going out with DH I's quite merrily go to the football in jeans, pumps and this really lightweight jacket thing.

Now I am 26 and wear jeans with tights underneath, sheepskin boots, wool jumper, coat, hat, scarf and gloves under my mittens. And I need a tea at half time!

I vividly remember not having a coat for the winter when I was 15-16...My mum despaired!

It was minus 15 degrees here this morning - I kid you not - and I saw two teenage school kids waiting for their bus in their shirt sleeves. Neither of them was even in a bus shelter. What are they thinking?!

I think it has definitely an age related phenomenon.

When I was a teen, 1970s, we did wear coats, Afghan coats, duffel coats being de rigeur and I remember the boys wearing ex Army greatcoats (big wool double breasted coats). And those long Tom Baker Dr Who scarves, and pull on 'cloche' hats for the girls. Oh dear, this is making me feel very old.

i grew up in a place where in the winter it was often -30C. skin would freeze.
did i wear a proper jacket hat scarf gloves boots? did I fuck. spent one whole winter wearing plimsoles on my feet. i'd go out with wet hair (which would freeze). my poor parents dispaired but we were teenagers mannnnn...

I went to football on Saturday I dad 67 jumpers and 2 pairs of trousers on! All the teenagers had just a football shirt on, The one sitting next to me made me feel frozen he shook all the way through the game.

I do remember refusing to wear socks as a teenager (white stilettos with everything you see )
