Braces on a teen girl, geeky or cool?

Been to the Orthadontist today. One of her front teeth protrudes further than it should and the dentist recommended the full train tracks top and bottom with elastic bands fixed on for two years. All on the NHS. She has 2 weeks to decide.

I think they look quite cool, she doesn't want to be teased. What's they general take on braces nowadays?

Very normal now I think

I never had them (and wanted them!) - not that my teeth were that bad and tbh they sorted themselves - but everyone had different coloured bits and they all whinged about it together. It was like some kind of club I wasn't in - I had my own the perfect-teeth-but-no-braces club! My sister had them and I was soooo jealous. She wasn't so keen but her teeth would have been dreadful if she hadn't had them but now they're perfect.

they are perfectly acceptable but you will ruin the effect by telling her they are cool. You are her mum! Its sooo not like it was in our day..

Oh! I'm sure the orthodontist wouldn't recommend treatment if I wasn't necessary. They don't waste money nowadays. She is going ahead and has an appointment next week for impressions etc.

He noticed that her bottom teeth were too far back so hopefully she will come out of it with a great smile.

I was offered them as a child, but the orthodonist advised my mum that it was only a minor problem, so I didn't have them.

My front tooth was pushed further and further out as I got older, until it was completely crossed over the other one. I hated it so much.

Ended up paying 2k for braces as an adult. The result was worth it, but I wish I'd had them done when I was younger.

Thanks Piglet, I'm sure we have made the right decision now.

Chocolate Calda - we too have a lovely dentist - we call him Dr Yum Yum!! Makes the awful drive thru the traffic worthwhile!! DD chooses her coloured bits to match whatever she's planning to wear to the latest social event! Very trendy now I think.
