Do girls usually stop growing at the age of 16?

i thought it was but some people have told me 18??

It must just depend on the child then, some boys seem to stop at 18 others 21.

its probably the same for girls, some 16..some a bit longer....

....with ds13 not far behind her then..the fight between them is still on...

Mostly depends on the girls puberty. Growth tends to stop (on average) around a year or two after periods first start - and even then its only really a few inches to go. All very funny - my mum started her periods age 12 and is 5 foot 4 - I started mine aged 15 and am just above 5 foot - grr! Also - 5 foot 4 is the uk average height for a girl - would you believe!

I have been wondering about DD 11 as she has had a huge growth spurt in the last year and has gone from below average to one of the tallest in her class. She is 5'1 so only an inch shorter than me. DH is 6'2. DS 13 also has had a big growth spurt and he is about 5'8 now and I noticed tonight how broad his shoulders have got.
I wondered if they have both developed early and won't grow any more. DD hasn't started her periods yet but is well developed in every other way, so I am expecting it any time now. DS's voice broke when he was 12.

Christy my dd1 has grown massively in the last year from one of the shortest to average height so is now nearly 12 and 5', still I was when she started her periods as it is more than 2 years younger than when I did. I also hope she grows a fair few more inches before she stops altogether I'd like her to be 5'4" as a minimum tbh.

I started my periods at 15, was 5'6" by age 16, thought I'd stopped there but somehow gained an extra half an inch without realising it by the age of 19. If I really stand up straight and concentrate I like to think I can reach the giddy heights of 5'7" but that's not entirely true.

My mother did that not growing at all during secondary school thing Bibi mentions, was way above her classmates at 5'3" when she started but just stopped there.

I was 5'3 going into high school and 5'5 at the end of 1st year. didn't grow any taller.

I stopped at 12, but periods started at 9.
Glad I didn't grow anymore am 6ft.

Cargirl we are all shorty on my side of the family. My sister is only 4'10 and her dds' aim in life was to reach 5'which they did just. They are late teens and it was really odd at christmas to see my DD the baby in the family taller than all of them.
DD was 11 in September but I think my periods started around my 12th birthday so she we won't be much younger than I was.

Started periods at 8, stopped growing about 13/14, am now 19 and 5ft 2 ish I think..

I stopped growing about 2 years after starting my periods. I think this is about normal.

My Mum is 4' 3/4 of an " and yes my aim in life was also to reach 5'

I stopped growing at 14... I was / am 6ft tall ! I was taller than almost everyone (including teachers).

well im 16 nd bout 5'4 but my best m8 is same hieght now but has very short legs nd always has ...(with petit bottoms 2) but she was smaller than me about 3 years ago but i think hers legs stopped growing nd her top half carried on haha .. also i dont think it has to much to do with your period as my cousin is 13 nd way taller than me nd has been since she was 7 nd her period has just started...

DD 12 is already 5'7" an " under me and dh. Am hoping she will grow up a bit more as she is growing out at the moment.

I think it's supposed to be 18 for girls and 21 for boys. Don't know how it's worked out though

Some stop at 16 and others are stillgrowing at 18. DD1 stopped around 16. DD2 seemed to stop at 16 butgrew another inch at 18. DD3 is 17 and had a growth spurt at 16 and now seems to have stopped.

I am the same height now as i was at 11.

I was the tallest in my class at 5ft 1in and 5 1/2 stone, but every one else kept growing and i was the shortest when we left school.

FWIW I didn't start my periods until i was nearly 15yrs. But i don't think i weighed 6st until then.

i stopped at 14 and then about 18 shot up anotnher 2 inches!
