Under 18s nights, what really goes on?

Our local "rock club" has a 13-17 rock night on a friday night. It seems very popular. DS wants to go. Its strictly no alcohol but what are these nights actually like? do they get up to much?

LOL at strictly no alcohol

TinselianAstra · 16/12/2008 13:10

Kids will dance.
Some will sneak in alcohol.
They will be shocked at the price of a can of coke.
They will all feel very awkward.
Some will 'snog'.
The older ones will get annoyed at the younger ones, because 13 year old boys act like children and run around shouting.

That's how it was at the one under-18's night I went to, don't suppose much has changed.

Mamazontopofsanta · 16/12/2008 13:13

just like TA says.

notnowbernard · 16/12/2008 13:14

There might not be many girls there because they will all be in the over-18 clubs

TinselianAstra · 16/12/2008 13:20

Depends where you are, all the clubs round my way are much structer than they used to be.

Which is a GOOD thing, because I always got asked for ID so I don't see why anyone else should be able to sneak in. [hmmph]

TinselianAstra · 16/12/2008 13:20

stricter, not structer. Don't know what structer is.

Pimmpom · 16/12/2008 13:36

I think they are pretty strict on the no alcohol rule. Problem is a lot drink beforehand!

SheherazadetheGoat · 16/12/2008 13:43

snogging, lots and lots of snogging, that is why he wants to go.

God i went to one under 18 night at our local night club, i told my mum i was staying at a friends afterward and ended up getting really drunk on vodka and slept in a car with my boyfriend (no sex or anything like that). I was 14 - i am ashamed about it now belive me!

MrsMattie · 16/12/2008 13:48

They were so, so uncool when I was a kid. If you couldn't cop some fake ID and get into a proper club, you were a saddo

jesuswhatnext · 16/12/2008 15:01

they will drink before going in,
they will do loads of snogging
they will get tonsilitis just in time for xmas - ime

let him go, he will luvvvvv it

I sometimes do sound tech for the under 18s nights in Maidstone. No alcohol, drugs, weapons -very strict searches on the door. Kent aware police team on hand. Mostly the girls queue for the toilets and giggle and the boys stand around looking nervous.
They girls all wear very little clothing and their dads wait outside with coats and bundle them up as soon as they step out of the club at 11!
My son (14) loves it (except if I am working when it cramps his style!)

liahgen · 16/12/2008 20:56

omg skipsmum, you've probably met my skimpily dressed dd.

She always goes to these, and thoroughly enjoys herself. Not normally any older teens ime as they're all in the pub.

liahgen · 16/12/2008 20:57

just read your last line, my dd and your ds could well know each other.

[how wierd is that emoticon]

hannahlouhoo · 16/12/2008 21:01

i suppose it depends where you are? My local discos were snogging, alcohol (sorry) smoking and when i was a little older 15/16 a small amount of weed. only 10ish years ago, i suppose times have chnaged.

MrsSnape · 16/12/2008 21:04

The no alcohol rule is VERY enforced at these things and if the 'doormen' smell alcohol on a person attempting to enter they don't let them in.

I know loads of teens in my area that go to these. I'd prefer my sons to be going to under 18 nights than sat drinking cheap lager in the park like I used to.

Skipsmum · 17/12/2008 08:22

liahgen - haha, now you know what goes on....very little!
The ones I work at are generally a collaboration between the clubs and police in an effort to encourage young people to enjoy clubbing responsibly. If they are used to going and comfortable ordering a coke they will continue to do so as over 18s. It seems to be working quite well in Maidstone.
