DS is in Year 8. He looks a lot older and has inherited his grandad's mediterranean colouring, so as dark hair on his top lip but he is not ready to shave.
In year 7 he was bullied , but he got through it and has no problems from them any more. However they did start calling him 'Hitler' I assume because of the moustache. This 'nickname' has continued with some of the others. I don't think it's said nastily but it still not a nice name and tonight he said it was getting him down.
We need to think of a retort or comeback for him to use.
He said he may talk to his form tutor tomorrow.

My son had the same issue at your son's age. (Not called names as far as I know but was quite embarassd and self-conscious about it.)

I was adamant he shouldnt shave because I thought he was too young and it would make the 'tash more noticable. After a few months, he shaved anyway. It solved the problem, and I really dont know why I had an issue with it.

But once he starts to shave, there's no going back and that's it, for the rest of his life. I hope my Ds won't shave just because he can.

Christy, his school 'friends' and classmates will be displaying their hormonal feathers before too much longer...your Ds could say 'when you are older and mature enough, you too can join my club'.

Ironically Solo, my son is now at university and appears to have given up shaving, and I'm not too keen on that look either.

@unavailable...I'm sure he'll get over that stage at some point!

Actually, I'm sure that my son will get a tache early too...his father had very strong, thick and dark hair/beard. I'm already(actually since he was 8, he's 10 now)teaching him to pluck between his eyebrows, so he doesn't have a mono brow.

Thanks for your replies

He has ignored it for a long time and part of the problem was the nickname was started by someone who was physically and verbally bullying him. He got through that and has no problems from the bullies themselves anymore and he is happy at school and doing really well, but the name still hurts. I think yesterday he was feeling a bit down about it.
His form teacher (he will keep the same tutor all the way through school) is lovely and would at least want to know that this kind of thing is going on, even if nothing directly is done about it.
He also got called "monobrow" last year Solo and I wax it for him sometimes
Also trying to cope with teenage spots, oh the joys of puberty.

Aargh!!! I dread it! but it's fast approaching!

I thought I'd try to get the brow plucking in early so that nobody would notice when the middle suddenly disappears...

DH has same colouring- he had to start shaving at 13. Good idea for him to go out with your DH and choose a shaver- a simple electric one would be easiest at first I would have thought.

Don't want to scare him.... but DH is one of those men who gets an 11 O'clock shadow...

TisTheSeasonToBeSolo · 05/12/2008 16:39

Electric shavers distort the skin apparently. Wet shaving is recommended...can't remember where I got that snippet of info...
