A teen being difficult is far harder to deal with than a toddler being difficult.
Or so I've found.

jellybeans · 28/11/2008 14:54

teens much harder, by a mile, one teen is even harder than twin toddlers!

brimfull · 28/11/2008 14:58

I have had both simultaneously and found the toddler harder.

Teens easy-they can make you tea and go shopping without whingeing.

unknownrebelbang · 28/11/2008 15:07

Toddler stage quite difficult at the time, physically exhausting, but blissfully ignorant of the issues that older children bring.

Teenagers, not physically exhausted anymore, but wow the emotional strain is heavy, and the financial aspect is frightening.

With a toddler you do retain control (even if you don't think you do), with a teenager (and pre-teens) once they start going out and about by themselves, etc etc, the unknown element comes into play, and the lack of control is quite scary.

justunaccomplishedmummy · 28/11/2008 17:08

Have both. Honestly toddlers. At least with a toddler they can annoy you all day but you can tuck them up in bed at night and know they are safe and sound. With teenagers you never know where they are from one moment to the next.

fossa · 28/11/2008 23:43

I have both, I cannot decide which is worse, but when it gets too much I can shut them in a room and let them look after each other.

BecauseImWorthIt · 28/11/2008 23:47

But teens will also sleep in in the morning, so you don't have to get up and be vigilant at 5.30 in the morning!

Enjoy my boys now they're older much more than when they were little. Yes, challenging, but easier.

I like teens & I think they're way, way easier than toddlers - but then I've not had any major problems with mine yet.

lovelysongbirdfliessouth · 29/11/2008 09:54

custy that sounds so nice.

i hope dd will snuggle up like that with me when shes older.

I have dd aged 17, ds1 15, ds2 13 and also ds3 6 and ds4 4.

Def have found the younger 2 harder and prefer teenagers any day!! Teenagers demand lifts here there and everywhere but this can be halved if you work with the other parents and share pick ups etc. I think I have been lucky so far with my teenagers as they are all pretty good, I get the occasional backchat but nothing very major and we all have a great laugh but they know where I draw the line. ds3 has Aspergers so I guess that impacts enormously and ds4 is a doddle as he is so happy and laid back but also pretty hyper.

On balance I would have teenagers anyday mainly cos I hate the constantly being on the go with younger kids who need entertaining. I def feel like I have grown out of the toddler phase now!

mysterymoniker · 29/11/2008 10:02

they're just lovely and horrible in different ways aren't they?

on balance probably prefer teens but that is partly because idea of going back to full time intensive toddlerhood makes me feel mildly suicidal

lovelysongbirdfliessouth · 29/11/2008 10:06

mm lol at they're just lovely and horrible in different ways aren't they?

dd1 only 11 but I would have toddlers every day of the week.

Chluro · 29/11/2008 18:23

Teenagers without a shadow of a doubt and I have 2 under 5 and a 5 year old, so I know
xx

hercules1 · 29/11/2008 18:24

toddlers. Ds is funny, witty, intelligent and doesnt cling to your leg when you go to the toilet.

mumblechum · 01/12/2008 23:11

Toddlers much worse than teens ime.

I love spending time with ds (14), he's bright, funny, thinks about things independently and is just good fun to be around.

Toddlers, ime, are often a pita, doing that horrid screechy thing, running into the road, not listening etc. Am v glad am out of that stage now
